ELITE 2020 FORWARD BEN CARLSON BREAKS DOWN RECRUITMENT, STRONG RELATIONSHIPS AND PLAYING STYLE ARE KEY

East Ridge High School (MN) junior Ben Carlson is one of the most sought after prospects in the country. The talented junior goes in depth on his skillset and where he’s at with recruiting after the jump.

Ben has been a huge part of East Ridge’s success in the early season for a team with an 11-2 record and currently ranked #2 in the State of Minnesota. Carlson has impacted the game from nearly every spot on the court and helps the Raptors ability to play multiple schemes.

Ben has plenty of options on the recruiting front, with current offers from Nebraska, Stanford, Minnesota, Davidson, Iowa State, Creighton, Northwestern, Purdue, Wisconsin, Kansas State, Iowa, Colorado, Wake Forest, Ohio state and Xavier.

In addition to the aforementioned programs, Carlson also reports interest from Michigan, Indiana, Virginia, Gonzaga and Arizona State.

The highly-touted junior does not have any leaders and confirms that all of his potential suitors maintain contact on a regular basis. Ben confirmed with Endless Motor that he’s working toward a Fall commitment and comfort with the coaching staff, play style and academics are paramount.

“I’ll probably decide before High School season next year. The most import things for me are the relationship with the coaching staff, how I fit the style of play, and the academics.”

Why do you say that? Just curious. I don't follow recruiting as closely. That said, I'd prioritize Gracia over him if I had to.

Because he is focused on best education best coach combo. Garcia is going to pick up some blue blood offers real soon and Carlson is garnering ACC traction.

Is that your own backhanded slam at the U?

What were your predictions on Oturu and Coffey?

I do not hit them all and have seen everything in recruiting but on those two they were pretty damn easy. They were huge early on staying home. Carlson was never huge on that. Lets see what his offers end up like, who returns to those teams, who coaches those teams. Carlson has such a keen academic piece in play. That IS NOT a knock on the U . IT is a great school but anyone that has a shot at Stanford, Northwestern, Notre Dame and more to follow should seriously look at those. As well as a evaluation of each and every coach.

This is correct. Not a knock on the U, but it's not everyone's fit or dream. Carlson is more in the Ruevers camp. It's almost a miracle he didn't end up at Notre Dame too, they were a little too late to the party and that meant something to him. Carlson isn't as sold on that, and willing to wait it out, which is a smart decision on his part if he doesn't want to go to the U.

I could care less where Gophers get their players from as long as they are good players and good kids. Of course we want as much of the outstanding local talent as possible but different strokes for different folks.

Some kids want a different experience; mine certainly did.
