Have you seen this before at TCF? They're hooking the NE and the WI games with two other games. If you're a little concerned about Season Ticket sales and you know that there will be demand from Husker and Badger fans (and scalpers) good move to try and fill a few more games.

"Customize a ticket package to fit your exact needs by selecting one game from each group below. Enjoy P.J. Fleck's first game as Head Coach vs. Buffalo, Homecoming vs. Illinois, and Senior Day vs. Wisconsin all for as low as $135!

Don't miss out on the elite era of Gopher Football coming to TCF Bank Stadium this fall!

Group 1
8/31 vs. Buffalo (Home Opener)
9/16 vs. Middle Tennessee State (Ag Day & High School Band Day)

Group 2
9/30 vs. Maryland (Salute to Service members)
10/14 vs. Michigan State (Parents & Family Weekend)
10/21 vs. Illinois (Homecoming)

Group 3
11/11 vs. Nebraska (Military Appreciation)
11/25 vs. Wisconsin (Senior Day)"

"Single-game tickets go on pre-sale for Gopher Score members on July 11 for all seven home games and will be subject to availability. Single-game tickets for the general public – with the exception of games against Nebraska and Wisconsin – will go on sale on July 18 (Nebraska and Wisconsin tickets are available in pick-your-pack bundles starting on June 20). Fans looking to purchase tickets for only the Nebraska or Wisconsin games may do so on Sept. 6 if tickets are still available"

2+3+2=7. Makes sense to me.

Also incredibly smart to put Nebraska and Wiskonsen together. It really hamstrings them both on buying tickets. All for it.

I have mixed feelings about this sort of thing.

I get why, and money is good.

At the same time I wonder about how many straight up unused tickets this produces..... It seems to guarantee a certain amount of empty seats.

Having a good year will take care of the empty seat part. I fully expect that to happen.

Somewhat, but I think we saw with 2014 to 2015 it takes a year for the numbers to actually rise.

In the meantime, guaranteed empty seats :(

I disagree. If you look at 2015 attendance with Wisconsin and Nebraska on the schedule, we also filled the stadium for other, less attractive games. The Kent State (52,823) and Ohio (53,917) games were full. Kent State and Ohio.

You might have a point with the Illinois game, which had an announced attendance of 47,976. It was a cold November day, and no way did they all show up. But on a nice day this WI and NE fans will find something to do with the extra tickets.

I think that was because we did really well in 2014....

That helps, for sure. But if you think we would regularly sell out the stadium against teams like Kent State and Ohio after 8-5 seasons without the help of WI and NE fans buying tickets, well, we're going to have to go ahead and disagree.

Like I said, I get the idea, I just don't like guaranteeing empty seats either.

Gophers should allow some sort of resale though their site or something maybe... double dipping time!

If demand is there for a game, tickets will be sold. If MTSU is a sell out, it will put that much more demand on the secondary market for tickets bought by Wisconsin fans. Sconny fans are idiots, but they are not dumb enough to not make money off tickets in high demand.

If there is not enough demand to sell out the non-conference games, the U just made money selling unused tickets. That is just good business.

I don't think that many folks buying tickets for those two teams are active sellers on the secondary market. That's far from automatic.

If people want to buy tickets and essentially throw them in the trash, that is their choice.

I would prefer to see actual butts in the seats, but if people buy a ticket bundle, don't attend one or more games, and don't offer those tickets for resale on the secondary market, there isn't a darn thing the U of MN can do.

Now, on a different matter - if there are unsold seats for a game, I would like to see the U of MN adopt a "rush seating" type of system. Maybe 30 minutes or so before kickoff, put any remaining unsold tickets on sale at a significant discount. Might just get a few more people at the game, and who knows, those people might actually spend money on beer and concessions.

It would be handy to be able to resell through the University website.... the Wild let fans do that.

There are other websites out there that allow one to do that.

Sort of. The problem is without tying those Non-Conference games to the games people want to get (i.e. NE and WI), there would/could be about as many empty seats in TCF as full ones. Throwing in a Big Ten game tells me that they are afraid that Season Tickets sales are really gonna be bad.

They'd have to drastically cut the single game price to even get a chance of a large gate. This year, as in ANY year that NE and WI are coming to town, why not make them buy those extra tickets?

Real Gopher fans get a chance for a "mini-season ticket" and Husker and Badger fans get to subsidize the Gophers.

The problem will come next season, if the Gophers don't have a good season next year. If they are afraid that supply outstrips demand this year, then wait until they try to sell that lousy slate of games after the Gophers only win 5-7 games. Oh and don't look pretty doing it.

Then "devaluing Season Tickets", trying to sell tickets to the public and trying to sell/give away tickets you don't want will really be a problem.

Let's just hope and trust that Fleck leads the Gophers to 7-10 wins, they look good doing it, and there is more than 1 trophy in that showcase.

Would you argue 2016 was as good or better than 2014?

Okay - first of all, it's great to finally be on THIS side of this tired argument...it's been a while. Truth be told, I was pretty bored with the 2016 version of the Gopher Football team...but I don't think you can argue for 2015 attendance numbers based on 2014's results and against 2017 when we won more games in 2016. The average fan who is on the fence for tickets couldn't distinguish between the two years. The drop-off in 2016 was probably solely because of $$$ and the lack of wisconsin and Neb on the schedule - plus the new Vikings stadium.

As our program currently stands, I think we can expect a solid 40-45K in the seats...we just have to hope that Fleck can convert two young people for every old person he turns off. That combined with wins, will create more fans in the next generation. We are what we are for the foreseeable future. That was the problem with Claeys...he was solely banking on wins for increased support. At the University of Minnesota that is like picking roulette as your money maker in a casino - we will be 'up and down' so you better have a magnetic personality to attract new fans during the 'lulls.'

Well, for those without season tickets it looks like you will be able to attend every game (except WI/NE) for next to nothing. Per usual.

Nice to be able to leverage off of Husker and Badger fans every other year. If only NDSU was on our home schedule too!
