South Point LV opens Gophers total wins 7.5 -110

Even though you may disregard my claims because I am a "Fleck-ite" the smart bet HAS to be 'under' right? I mean until reality tells me otherwise, I will never bet on the Gophers to win 8 regular season games. We certainly won't be favored in 8 games this year.

Yeh, that seems right. So you're taking the under?

If I were placing a bet - yes. In reality, the hassle of collecting $110 on a $100 (or maybe it's the other way around - I get confused) from a web site just isn't worth it. Fairly certain, though, that if the 2017 season got played 10 times the 'under' would pay out 7 out of 10. Fairly easy schedule, but I see only about 5 games that we will expected to win based on talent.

This line feels accurate to me. Without getting into exactly who we beat... 8 wins would seem like a realistic peg for a good season. Anything less would seem an underachievement. Anything more would be pretty exciting.

That seems about right to me given our schedule. 7.5

VSiN is operated out of South Point near their Sportsbook. Got most in their publicity when Brent Musberger "retired" and joined them. The South Point book doesn't make a lot of errors. 6 wins seems to low, 8 wins certainly possible, but a bit of a stretch for bettors. Since books like the ".5", 7.5 seems reasonable.

I usually don't take the under for win totals but like another opinion in this thread, I think you have to take the under until Fleck proves otherwise.

And yes, VSiN is the new sports betting network in Vegas (@SouthPoint)

They apparently don't know we lost Leidner.

In contrast to the above I look at the schedule and I see a ton of winnable games. OSU, Nebraska, Iowa, Northwester, MSU are going to be great games. These are teams that have a lot of warts right now.

Agreed. ESPN's got Gophs projected to win seven. Looking a the schedule and what I think Fleck will do to immediately elevate the offense, Gophs just need to take care in the ones they should win, and win one where they are dogs.

Looks like Las Vegas is expecting those 4-5 people that think the Gophers will win 8 games to bet a lot of money.

I agree that those games are winnable - I was just saying that we probably won't be favored to win (we might/probably will be against OSU).

MN is 1-11 in Iowa City in the last 25 years and 4-12 in last 16 overall meetings.
I'd take the under if I had to bet on this number. I think the number shows the respect for Fleck, and his staff's ability to coach an offense and a new QB.

7.5. Cautiously optimistic....as am I.

I'll take the over.

We beat Northwestern by 17 points last year. Home field advantage is not that great, particularly in Evanston. They lost their QBs security blanket. Historical records vs Iowa, Wisconsin mean nothing. We get Nebraska at home. Oregon State will not be a pushover but they are rebuilding.

All depends on passing game. Gophers may just have their best O coaching staff, perhaps ever. If they can get past Oregon State & MTSU and create a potent passing attack in their 5 game "pre-season" it's possible they can catch lightning in a bottle. If the passing game struggles again, then 7 wins becomes the upside definition of a good season. I would bet on the latter, whilst hoping for the former.

I like Gophs chances in the Neb and Oregon State games. That makes eight. Iowa lost almost all its skill position starters on offense.

Maybe to many people are underestimating this year's squad. The Gophers had starters suspended last season for the games against Indiana State, Colorado State, Penn State, Rutgers and Washington State. They still won all but the Penn State game. Not a stretch to believe that if some or most of those players were available for those games, the margin of victory would have been larger and the Penn State game would have been won.

That's in the past now. Could be that with a better Offensive Coaching staff and some of the returning Defensive players "seasoned" during the above mentioned games, a 7 to 9 win season won't be so surprising.

Looks like South Point is already thinking that.

How could the passing game not be better than last year? Book it- it will be better.

Fleckie and Fleckite are not politically correct. The correct term is Fleckophile. [emoji6]and I agree smart money is under. But boy do I hope I'm wrong!

Thanks for this. There are exceptions, but usually betting lines are designed to draw even money, with the -110 representing the vigorish. Vegas almost never cares who wins, and certain teams are often bargains because they have fans with deep pockets and never bet against their team.

Really aggressive sports books exploit this flaw, but at their own peril. It doesn't need to be a bet when it can be a bank.

Oregon State and Gary Anderson are vastly overrated. Anderson's best assistants have left for promotions at BYU and Fresno State. Beavers lost top two wrs, one to NFL and one to meningitis. Lost two DBS to NFL, two olinemen to NFL, fb and lb to NFL. QB still unknown. Bunch of transfers hurting depth. Had to move dlineman to Oline to help. They won four games last year. One was Idaho State. Beat Cal and Oregon late in year, two teams where coach got fired. Beat Arizona dumpster fire late in year, AZ coach is prbly going to get fired this year.

Iowa has no rcvrs returning if vandeberg can't get healthy...the QB has little game experience...four guys drafted, four guys undrafted free agents won't be easily replaced..two lost to NFL from secondary then a projected starter in secondary tore up knee in Spring ball...Kirk shook up staff for nepotism and old boy network hires...

Fleck and Claeys knocked NW around last year; Fitz loses some good talent, Walker leaving early to NFL hurts, the projected starting de caught with coke won't help...NE has some huge roster and some coaching staff turnover to deal with as does Michigan...

This cannot possibly be true! A college team that sends that many players to the NFL has to have a better record!!

Well, it's a clear indication of the team's overall talent so the coach must suck.
