Gopher Softball 2018

I think I got spoiled by Groenewegen; hopefully the pitching is up to her level this spring. I really, really hope they can be elite. That means beating PAC12 and SEC teams, even against the odds. Winning big-time is the only way to get the proper respect from the NCAA. I for one will follow every game they play.

Latest information I have found shows that Sydney Schelkopf is uncommitted. She had previously committed to MN. However, a recent commitment is Ali Lindner from Sioux Falls, SD. She had previously committed to coach Trachsel at IA State. https://twitter.com/AliLindner/status/924088717467422720

Based on what I'm seeing, seems like Lindner is a utility-type player. At least, that's how she's listed on her club team's roster. Anyway, nice to get another commitment! Welcome to Gopher softball Ali!

Anyone know anything about the Sydney de-commit. Or is she still committed and they just added a 4th commit to this class

I haven't seen anything official. She could still be verbally committed. The Northwest Bullets site lists her as uncommitted. From the descriptions I have read, she and Lindner are very similar players - good bat control, good speed, hit from the left side, capable of playing multiple positions. Lindner has played outfield and reportedly covers a lot of ground and has a great arm.

The other B1G team in Tallahassee will be Michigan.

Emily Hansen has signed. I believe Ali Lindner has signed or will sign when she returns from Jamaica.

Does anyone know if any of these recruits are power hitters? Or are they just slappers and singles hitters?

I know Hansen has a little pop in her bat. And the impression I get is that Denhartog is just a really good all-around hitter, power and average. The others I don't know about.

As I just read from Sara Moulton: If you can hit, you will play. As an old-time baseball pitcher, not the statement dearest to my heart, but I think it's the key to women's softball these days.

Hello. Several people have been saying that whoever can hit will play. This is not new news and this is what Allister did last year. The best defensive players did not play. The best hitters played.

Heaven forbid Hrothgar shares a tidbit too! Is there a threshold to originality we are supposed to meet?

Meaning what? If you prefer I shut up, I'll oblige you.

Lol! I have been saying that! For baseball players it is sometimes hard to compute. In softball get a really good pitcher and a bunch of girls who can hit the snot out of the ball and then put those hitters where they do the least damage on defense. Then recruit a few really fast kids to pinch run, bunt and occasionally slap if you need it. Put the fast girls in the outfield for a few innings after they pinch-run for the slow outfielder who can crush the ball! Recipe for greatness!

Does anyone know when the Gophers' 2018 spring schedule will be published?

It came out on December 20th last year.

That being said, we already know that they will be in Tallahassee Feb 16 & 17 to face FSU twice and Notre Dame twice. They will also be in Lafayette LA the next weekend with 2 games vs ULL and probably 2 or 3 other games against either Mississippi Valley St, UMBC, North Florida or Memphis.

They are going to Vegas in February.

"we already know." How do we know that? Is there info released at some other site? I'd be interested to know. Thanks.
