Gopher Softball 2018

Watching that first game was like muddling through stop and go traffic for two hours. Right when you hit 55 mph and think your good to go, the car in front of you slams on its brakes...over and over again...until you finally break free to the open road in the end.

Looks like they started game #2 on the open road!

That was a nice sweep! Needed!

Jensen actually ran through the stop sign :banghead:

Perhaps but I watched it several times and Jamie looked really indecisive over there on 3B. Maybe they use really subtle signs or something but Jamie did not slam the brakes on her.

I didn't see indecision although the stop didn't go up until Jensen was just about at third base. What I saw was the go sign when Jensen was between second and third and a hard stop sign when she got to third. Jensen saw Trachsel and started to slow down and then decided to keep going.

The indecision was waiting until it was too late to stop her. Of course watching it in TV it was obvious that Jensen had no chance really early in the play and it isn't always that obvious from field level.

Jamie is an aggressive coach when it comes to baserunning. That attitude spills over to the players and especially to a fast one like Jensen. I am sure that if Jamie could do it again she would give Jensen the hard stop much earlier.

Well, despite that play, it worked out in the end, thanks to Partain's heads-up base-running in getting to third on Jensen's rundown. If Partain'd lingered at second, the game would have been lost. The second chance to tie the game on L's ground ball was fortunate. Interestingly, pretty much the same scenario got repeated on Partain's triple in the 9th. Jensen scored on that one. Poetic justice, it seems.

Maybe so, but she doesn't run them much on steals.

Indiana 85-117 is first overall.
Gophers are 8th overall 37-42 and 9th in conference on steals 11-11.

She has a lot of speed that is hurt right now. Jensen, Houlihan, Wagner, and Partain have some speed in the starting lineup but overall the team speed is not that good. She doesn't have a lot of pinch runners available with Cowger, Chell, and Thompson hurt.

Probably won't run Partain much now that Lindaman is hitting in the 2 spot.

Fiser having a big year in conference games. Sits at #2 in ERA behind the Michigan ace. Amber at 1.18 ERA and opponents are hitting .169 off her. She is 4th in strikeouts with 50 in 47.1 innings
Lindaman tops in average, on base percentage, slugging percentage, 2nd in home runs, first in walks

Thanks for the recap. BTW, Lindaman might be 2nd in home run total, but she's blowing everyone way in AB per HR. She's hitting a home run every 3.8 at bats, Lewis (NU) at 4.8, Blanco (MI) at 5.8, Nelson (NU) at 7.0, and Edwards (NE) at 7.2.

Moved up a few spots to #28.

Nice to move up. Looks like Wednesday's games against Becky have been cancelled/postponed. I was looking forward to some softball again this week but will have to wait until the weekend.

Sorry to hear about Wisconsin being cancelled or postponed, but obviously not surprised. With BIG games the next few weekends and mid-week games against NDSU and South Dakota already scheduled, curious to see if those Wisconsin games get played.

Where there's a will there's a way. If they really want to play them, they can.

Fiser Earns B1G Pitcher of the Week Accolades

ROSEMOUNT, Ill. – Sophomore right-hander Amber Fiser has been named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday, April 16.

The Gophers ace posted a perfect 2-0 record this past weekend against Iowa tossing 14 innings of work allowing one run that was not earned and stuck out 10. The Van Horne, Iowa native tossed a game one shutout against the Hawkeyes before picking up the win in game two that reached extra innings.

Leading the Big Ten with 19 complete games, she allowed just three runners of the 21 faced to reach base in game one of the series. Fiser worked the first eight innings in the nine-inning win in game two of the series allowing an unearned run. She has now not allowed an earned run in 16 consecutive innings.

Do you know anything special about her? I'm also hoping for a potential superstar pitcher to accompany Fiser in the future.

All information points to her being a pretty solid player and she should be able to contribute right away. She plays club ball on the top Firecrackers team and is a FloSoftball top 100 candidate. She plays the corners in the infield and also can catch so she can fill some holes next year - based on High School statistics (which can be deceiving/inaccurate) it looks like she will help offensively as well.

That looks to be a great signing! It might be sacrilege to say this but I think a move to first base would be great for Lindaman next year if this kid can catch. Catching is just so physically demanding I feel like Kendyl could hit 25 homers if she wasn't so beat up and battered.

Lindaman could hit 25 homeruns catching, too, if she weren't walked so often. A lot of that depends on who's hitting after her; it needs to be somebody who's almost as dangerous as she is. My main concern next year is stronger infield defense and added potential superstar pitching.

Pitching, pitching, pitching. I am all for that.

Several infielders in the recruiting class but no pitchers coming in next year.

Fiser will be back, Smith might actually be healthy, Brandt is back, Lowary might actually be healthy, and Bailey will have a year of Piper coaching her up. I think next year pitching will be far better than this year.
