Joey Julius developed a reputation around the Big Ten for laying big hits in 2016, but as the spotlight brightened on the 5-foot-10, 260-pound kicker, the story became much more complex than fans getting a kick out of seeing the specialist get physical on the field.

Julius revealed last October he suffers from anxiety, depression and a binge eating disorder, for which has sought treatment in the past. Some Penn State fans have been inquiring about his absence from spring practice and the Nittany Lions' spring game, so Julius took to Facebook on Friday to provide an update on his status with the team.

"I have been struggling over the last couple months with my eating disorder. It got to the point where I had to return to St. Louis to seek further treatment at the McCallum place. Recovery is a wonderful and beautiful thing that I am working on returning too," Julius wrote on his Facebook page.

Go Gophers!!

I never knew flopping like a b!tch was a symptom of an eating disorder - I apologize for criticizing this sloppy ******.

The media loved the little butter ball's story. The opponents and his own team saw him for the joke he was.

Hope he can get help, tough to be public with anything your struggling with.

This is very true. Even Kill found out about that when he had his issue on the field at half time. You got people like Souham, Beavergopher and GopherHomer making it difficult for people to come around and get help.
