per Pioneer Press:

Mark Coyle is knows there remains a long way to go before fundraising for the $166 million Athletes Village is complete. Still, Minnesota’s athletics director is confident the entire project will be privately funded.

He’s adamant, in fact, that the U’s entire Nothing Short Of Greatness campaign — which takes into account the Athletes Village and other facility upgrades across campus — will be paid for by donations.

How much long will it take to secure the full amount?

“If I had that answer, I wouldn’t have as much gray hair,” Coyle said Friday.

Speaking from inside the framework of what will be the indoor practice facility of the Athletes Village, Coyle said the project is about half-funded. As of late Friday afternoon, the U has raised a little more than $100 million, with about $100 million to go for the Nothing Short of Greatness campaign.

About $85 million has been raised specifically for the Athletes Village.

“It’s breakfast-lunch-dinner fundraising,” Coyle said. “That’s a big focus of mine right now, just getting out there and talking to people about the importance of investing in our program.”
