Three Rule Changes Approved for 2017

The NCAA Rules Oversight Panel approved recommended safety changes this week:

  • Players are required to wear knee pads and pants that cover the knees (previously this was "strongly recommended")
  • Defensive players who run toward the line of scrimmage are prohibited from leaping or hurdling offensive linemen on field goal and point-after-touchdown attempts
  • The definition of a horse-collar tackle now includes the nameplate area of the jersey

Don't be surprised when these are called differently this year.
 

Could see #1 coming a mile away. Some of the football pants were starting to look like bicycle shorts.

It's mainly kickers and receivers/DB's who do it, but others have also started going to those.
It could be because they practice with those type of "pants" during the season.
