Thought I'd post this since we play them this year.

From ESPN:

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- Middle Tennessee has suspended defensive lineman Justin Akins and linebacker Shalom Alvarez while they're investigated for possible animal cruelty seen on a Snapchat video.

Athletic director Chris Massaro said Wednesday in a statement that the actions captured in the video were disturbing.

Coach Rick Stockstill suspended the players until the investigation is completed, and Massaro says Akin and Alvarez will perform community service for local animal welfare groups.

The Daily News Journal first reported the investigation and suspensions. Murfreesboro detectives were contacted April 6 by someone who had seen video on Akins' Snapchat account showing Alvarez hitting a puppy four times.

Akins is a redshirt senior who played 13 games last season with 27 tackles, and Alvarez joined the team last year.

Alvarez huh? That name has been associated with animal cruelty before hasn't it?

Suspensions were turned into dismissals.

Both guys were defensive players, can't help. MTSU had a terrible defense. Like 40 points a game bad. Loses 6-7 starters on defense. Brought in new def coordinator.

MTSU has a wide open offense. Coach Stockstill has his kid flinging it around quite a bit at QB. The son missed Spring ball due to shoulder surgery. Missed end of season with ankle injury.

The offensive line is a position group that is looking almost brand new as compared to the group that last played on Christmas Eve. The Raiders lost left guard Josh Chester, center Daniel Stephens and right tackle Marquise Shakir to graduation, opening up three spots along the offensive line.

Returning for the Raiders is redshirt junior tackle Carlos Johnson and junior guard Chandler Brewer, who’s missed much of this spring due to injury.

Top rb, Mathers, graduated. He had 2,194 yards of offense -- 1,561 yards rushing on 232 carries and 633 yards receiving on 66 catches -- and 20 touchdowns (17 rushing) in 2016.

Top two WRs were limited contact this Spring.

With the way those guys have proven they can take the heat/humidity in America's Sauna, I'm sure they will catch on somewhere else real fast.

That will serve them well in the afterlife...

MTSU oline coach Rick Mallory had heart attack mid-April. Arterial tear had to be repaired. That procedure delays stent procedure on some blockages until mid-June. 56 year old guy with six kids.
