per the Orange County Register:

Lonzo Ball pulled his hamstring during UCLA’s season-ending loss to Kentucky in the Sweet 16, his father LaVar Ball revealed Thursday, adding it prevented Lonzo from taking over for teammates who lacked the athleticism required to win a national championship.

“Realistically you can’t win no championship with three white guys because the foot speed is too slow,” LaVar Ball said. “I told Lonzo - ‘One of these games you might need to go for 30 or 40 points.' It turned out the that was the one game. Then once they get to the Elite 8, they’re right there.”

LaVar Ball was presumably referring to UCLA starters TJ Leaf, Bryce Alford and Thomas Welsh, who combined for 39 points in the third-seeded Bruins' 86-75 loss in the NCAA tournament on March 24. UCLA's freshman point guard finished his final college game with 10 points, eight assists and four turnovers while Ball's counterpart, Kentucky's De’Aaron Fox, scored 39 points, a record for a freshman in the NCAA tournament.

The man is an idiot plain and simple.

So counting Lonzo does that make it 3.5 reasons why UCLA lost? Last I checked De'Aaron Fox dropped 39 on him and also the second ball kid is a slow spot up shooter at best which is why he is only a 3 Star recruit

I hate demonstrably sticking up for the white man, because it puts one in the same camp with some truly terrible people, but Mr. Ball is an idiot. Ultimately, he will do his children more harm than good with his mouth.

You don't seem to mind making fun of Kill for his epilepsy though!

I really hope that the Wolves don't end up in a position to potentially draft Ball. LaVar is so determined to hog the spotlight from his kids and make himself as famous as possible based on their talent. Just sad. I can only imagine what he was like with his kids growing up, would have hated to be a youth coach dealing with this ahole.

Ironic (and racist) given his son's at least half European (white mother, lighter skinned black father) in his genetics. He's about as dark as Bryce Alford. And he got torched off the bounce by DeAaron Fox, who's very much black.

Plus he's now building a rep for blaming his kid's teammates when things don't go well. He's becoming a real treat and someone NBA GMs have to be worried about.

I've always hated the white basketball player stereotype. I used to get pissed at co workers for saying I played high school hoops but we had a bench of white guys so we weren't that good and that guys who usually say that are white. There are many athletic white guys and good basketball players. When we lost in the olympics in '04, it wasn't vs a team full of black guys who won it. I am black but this is one of the dumbest stereotypes in sports, along with the dumb black qb, slow white RBs, WRs, and CBs. I'm pretty sure Gonzaga, Wisconsin, Duke vs Butler 2010 had a court full of white guys, would love to have a talk with Lavar. Plus his son was the one who couldn't keep his man in front of him and TJ Leaf was the most athletic guy for UCLA in that game

“Realistically you can’t win no championship with three white guys because the foot speed is too slow,” LaVar Ball said.

When asked if he was aware he was perpetuating a stereotype with that statement, Lavar said, "Sorry you are right, Realistically you can't win A championship with three white guys because the foot speed is too slow."

This guy is unbelievable!!!!! To me it is the most racist comment I've heard all year. Put the shoe on the other foot and say Welsch's Dad said the black players were at fault for some poor reason...how much would that guy get crucified? This guy needs to go away. Dan Patrick said it best this morning when he said this guy is like Kris Jenner and is writing checks his sons have to try and cash!

I'm not going that far as that is the racist thing you've heard all year if it is you haven't been listening to much being spewed out in media lately. It is def racist but can't be the racist thing you've heard all year that's def not believable

Dumb, stupid statement that is going to turn off folks that previously laughed at or just ignored Lavar like me. That said, it ain't 'racist'.

Calipari would seem to disagree as they ran iso play after iso play against Lavar's son.

Saying that white guys lack foot speed isn't racist? How exactly would you describe it?

Knowing that Alford has to deal with this a-hole for two more sons makes me chuckle

It's a stupid statement that generalizes. If you think that equates to racism then you have a far different idea of racism than what it actually is which is systemic. Even if you want to view racism as some strictly individual trait, few, if any, white athletes are denied the opportunity to play based on stereotypes of foot speed which is why calling it 'racist' is silly.

prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior:

pretty much to a T

I dont think saying white people are slow is racist, it's just lazy thinking brought on by a stereotype.

I'm one of those that say racism is systemic

In other words you make up your own definition for the word. Words have actual meaning, that is how we can communicate, you can't just change the meaning of words to placate your feelings. Go ahead and make yourself feel better by making up your own meaning for words, but don't expect anyone else to understand what you are saying or to go along with your world. It really is a narcissistic view to think that the meaning of words should be changed to your own personal feelings.

Here is the dictionary's definition of the word:

a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human racial groups determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to dominate others or that a particular racial group is inferior to the others.

It is a belief, not anything to do with being systemic.

This is classic oleboy. Quick to fire off the race card when it suits him and slow to do so if it harms him. It's just his deal, no need to get fired up about it.

Completely disagree. I am with oleboy, it is a generalization of a trait, not racism. Personally, I thought the reason UCLA lost was the lack of intelligence of the African American players on the team. If you got a problem with that, you can take it up with me and oleboy.....

So racism has nothing to do with systems? Actually that's a very white (generalization I know) view of racism. You remove the societal aspect of race and attempt to make it simply about individuals. This is what allows people to believe electing a black president means racism doesn't matter anymore or deny the reality of systemic oppression and white privilege. It's ok, though. You don't know any better

Classic GH posters. Blatantly lie and Claim I 'fired off the race card' when race was mentioned all throughout the thread before I commented. If you're slow enough to make such an assinine statement you don't want to debate with me. I'll eat your lunch. Get lost

This post is so ridiculous I don't have the time nor desire to even bother with addressing it. Just go on insulting people, making up your own definitions for words, and impressing yourself with how intelligent you think you are.

Everybody wants to point fingers, be politically correct and cry racism. Just a couple of thoughts in the equation: Lonzo Ball is half white. 80% of the players in the NBA are black. Tell me why more white players are not in the NBA if black players are not quicker? The 20% white guys are either very tall or from Europe with a different training of the game on fundamentals to further generalize. Or they are shooting specialists. If you have ever coached and don't think in general black players or teams are quicker, then instead of racism we might have an honesty issue. No, it's not unanimous but in general it's overwhelmingly obvious borne out by statistics or just watching the dang game. Not everything is racist...it's just true that black players are more often quicker. Fire away...
