Below is my annual report (by coach) on how the Gophers have performed vs. NCAA-qualifying squads. Pitino is making serious headway with regards to road performance, as this season the Gophers won 3 road games (Purdue, Northwestern, Maryland) vs. eventual NCAA qualifiers. To put that in perspective, Pitino already has 5 such wins, 5 more than Dan Monson had in his 7+ seasons.

1 Tubby Smith vs. NCAA Qualifiers: 29-53 (35.4%)
2 Richard Pitino vs. NCAA Qualifiers: 18-38 (32.1%)
3 Dan Monson vs. NCAA Qualifiers: 21-63 (25%)
4 Jim Molinari vs. NCAA Qualifiers: 1-9 (10%)

0-44 is difficult to achieve, regardless of competition.

Yes, it is. One of the most fascinating statistics I've ever come across. I've checked and re-checked it multiple times, and it always comes up zero.

What it tells me is that there was a combination of low talent that was low motivated. Really bad cocktail.

One of the more appealing things about the trajectory of the program is that we can go into seasons and games believing we can win because we have better players and not a plethora of other factors that we hope go in our direction.

Even bottom tier major conference teams (think TCU) beat teams that end up in the tourney, sometimes at least.
