Do you think the US Bank Stadium game will replace the game in Sioux Falls or will they keep both Neutral Site games?

Just a guess, replace it. However, I do think the Gophers will play a second neutral-site (non-conference) game, so it's certainly possible.

Maui and Battle 4 Atlantis not nearly as stout this year

One thing that stands out?

The Maui Invitational and Battle 4 Atlantis fields -- traditionally the two strongest exempt tournaments -- are significantly weakened this year by the Phil Knight Invitational, which has a who's who of college hoops in its 16-team field.

Just semantics probably, but isn't the Phil Knight deal really two 8-team fields? I think that is how they are able to get 2 teams from some conferences.

Yes, I noted that under Michigan State and Ohio State schedules.

We aren't signed up for a tourney yet? I guess that is what 8-23 gets you.

That's by design. Pitino doesn't like the bracketed tournaments, definitely not the 8-teamers. He prefers multi-team events where you get 3-4 home games. At least for now I'd anticipate we won't be playing in one for awhile.

Several of these have weak rosters. The Cayman Islands one that Iowa is in for example. Woof. If they don't play Cincy it will add nothing to their resume. Seeing these, it's hard to argue against Pitino's preference.

I hope they keep it. It's a great way to get a true neutral site win on the resume while still having a home court advantage. A win at the Bank will only be considered neutral site by Clem Haskins.

I hope they keep it too but I'm not a season ticket holder. That would give us 3 "neutral site" games with US Bank Stadium, Madison Square Garden, and Sioux Falls.

I didn't mind it last year, it's a creative way to get some RPI boosters and a Major opponent on to the schedule and into the barn

True. But the ACC game should be at home, so they'd still get 10 non-conference home games presumably. And I assume the B1G is making up their lost revenue on the OSU game. And I don't see how a game at US Bank is hurting season ticket holders?

Iowa is going to Sioux Falls to play Colorado. Gophers will skip Sioux Falls next season.

Also, the US Bank Stadium game could be pushed back to 2018-19.

Can bet the farm Iowa and Cincinnati will be on opposite sides of the bracket. There are some solid non-Power 6 teams there, I'd expect Richmond, South Dakota State, and Wyoming all to be pretty decent.

Michigan State will travel to Florida

For back end of home & home with the Gators.

2 B1G games between December 1-4

November 27 through December 4 will be a juicy stretch for B1G teams, the ACC Challenge (Nov. 27-29) immediately followed by a pair of B1G games Dec. 1-4. We have December conference games next season because of week earlier B1G Tournament at Madison Square Garden.

Personally, I love it that we'll get a couple conference games in December. Spices up what's usually college basketball's dullest month.

Remind me is that every team that gets games during that time or just specific ones?

Gavitt Games (vs. Big East) Update

It's not known whether the Gophers will take part in the Gavitt Games for the second straight season. Here's what we do know about Big East participation, via the excellent, diligent work by Patrick Marshall @wildjays on Twitter.

Providence and Xavier will not participate.

Marquette and Seton Hall will play home games.

Butler will play on the road.

That means if the Gophers participate next season, and we assume it would be a road game, Marquette and Seton Hall would be 2 of the possibilities. Either one added to the Arkansas game we already know about would be two good true road tests for the Gophers.

Assuming Pitino's distaste for bracketed exempt tournaments still stands, hoping the Gophers' 2017-18 non-conference schedule will be constructed this way:

9 Home (include 2 major opponents)
2 Road (2 major opponents)
2 Neutral (1-2 major opponents)

This past season the breakdown was 11-1-1.

11 non-conference home games (Gophers played more than any team in the country) is too many. 9 is the perfect number. Still flexibility for a couple true roadies & neutral-siters (Pitino likes those), and at the same time it skims some fat off the home schedule.

Important B1G Scheduling Dates

Last year important release dates were:

May 3 -- Gavitt Games pairings announced
May 24 – ACC/B1G Challenge pairings announced
June 20 – B1G opponents announced (single play/double play/home & road)
August 25 – B1G schedule announced

There are reports in the IU media that IU will be at home for the second consecutive season in the ACC-B1G challenge, but will be playing a road game in the Gavitt Games.

SS - What are the possibilities about the Gophers getting 1 of UNC, Duke or L'ville in the ACC/B1G Challenge? Or will we get Florida State or UVA for the millionth time...

I feel like the Gophers should be rewarded for the season they just had by getting one of those at the Barn(since we should be getting a home game next season).

My guess is Purdue will probably get one of those 3 since they will probably be the favorites to win the conference, but after that, with the personnel losses that Wisconsin has, there really isn't a team that sticks out, I guess MSU, so it wouldn't surprise if they played one of those teams. My guess is we'll get stuck playing FSU again, only they'll be worse because Bacon, Rathan-Mayes and Isaac are all leaving. So it'll be another meh type of game.

Be funny if we scheduled a home and home with FSU to prevent a challenge match up
