Myrick posts a 4.29 40

Good for him. Hope he does well and gets a lot of interest from it.

Wow. That's a $$ run right there.

Go Gophers!!

What round of the draft will he be projected at now?

4.32 on second attempt.

I missed any of the other drills he might have done. How did he do?

4.28!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Should improve his draft stock some.

Still super late rounds. Myrick is fast but that's about it when talking about his pro prospects. He isn't exactly the best corner out there. Credit to him for running that 40 today cause him absolutely blazing during that is his chance to get drafted and not be a UDFA

ehhh. He suffered from a drop off his SR year but as a JR he definitely looked like a day 2 guy. I think the move to the slot along with the turmoil on the other side hurt him a bit. He's not the most fluid guy though

This is why I wish we still had Sawvel, and think Fleck made a big mistake in letting him go. He was able to find guys like him, Murray etc who were less than 4 star recruits that flew under the radar. For whatever reason, he could find and develop db talent. I will be following him closely at his new gig but the last 5 years of defensive back play have been the most exciting and fun to watch since I got season tickets in 96.

Could see someone picking him up just for his return potential with that speed. I think he has a good chance to play almost right away on special teams as a returner.

he was a poor kick returner his senior year, always decelerating and bracing for contact. I don't know if he was trying to stay injury free for the pros, but if they watch senior year tape they won't see the next CP 84.

How do you know Fleck let him go?

He was actually pretty consistent year over year at KR. He had two long returns his SO year, including the 100 yd TD, so those bumped up his average. He was a starter all last year, so I'm sure that played a little bit into his KR approach.

Yeah, I agree. That is exciting speed. He exploded off the line and someone will definitely take him as a CB/kick return specialist. He had a nice vertical as well. If they fall in love with that elite speed someone could reach up as high as the middle rounds but nothing will surprise. Depends on the coach and their needs. He seemed to have reliable hands as a kick and punt returner and had moments as a CB.

Looking back over the top 40 guys it seems like an elite time ~ 4.30 will bump a player anywhere from one to three rounds higher. Not saying that will happen here because he did seem to struggle a bit in coverage this season but NFL guys prize size and athleticism above all.

You also need to factor in his value as a gunner on coverage teams. He projects as a, slot (nickel) corner, Kick returner and gunner. Elite speed raises his value considerably.

Sounds alot like Marcus Sherels. His NFL career could be very similar

Yep, think that as well...Sherels with more speed. Marcus has earned every $$ Vikes have paid him...

Legit question: How important are coverage skills for a slot corner? I would think quickness and physicality are more important to press the receiver at the line and keep up with them. The 200 pounds will help in run support and blitzes too, I would think. I'm not too knowledgeable though so I could be flat out wrong.

But did they develop Myrick to his full potential? He was born with the speed gene.

Can't cover and might be the worst return guy ever in a gophers uniform. But his speed will get him drafted. Just cross fingers it's not the Vikings.

Credit Has to land somewhere

Either the Kill staff could discover and recruit athletes and turn them into football players or the strength and conditioning staff couldn't have been as deplorable as some say. Myrick is the fastest of all the DB's at the combine. Leidner excelled among all quarterbacks in measurables...broad jump, cones, vertical. So, how much of the actual football culture really needed to change? The Gophers who got drafted the last couple years also did well at the combine.
I'm just saying next year's guys who go to the combine have some lofty standards to uphold.

I agree. Prepare to get hammered...

Very important. His issues were listed as "tight hips" among some others and that's a big deal; it will come down to whether a coach thinks his technique can be improved (sure). Outside vs slot, coaches love themselves height outside but speed and leaping ability go a long ways. If you you can't run you best be tall. Height isn't everything. Myrick seemed to show some flashes of good instincts but also got lost pretty often and out of position. Part of it was we had little pass rush early on and those guys were truly on an island. It's also hard to defend the perfectly thrown pass.

Possibly another Preposterous Statement contender...

Myrick if not a a corner, is a nickle or even a free safety. He has speed. He will be drafted in the middle rounds. I will say late 2nd round.
