And isn't it just grand that the Gophers are one of the safe 56?

My unofficial "at-large head count" as the Atlantic Sun Tournament kicks off tonight.

68 BIDS

32 automatic bids are automatically accounted for with the conference leader or best RPI (in the event of a tie) and/or the top-seeded team remaining in the conference tournament: Akron, Bakersfield, Belmont, Bucknell, Dayton, East Tennessee State, Florida Gulf Coast, Gonzaga, Illinois State, Kansas, Kentucky, Middle Tennessee, Monmouth, Mount Saint Mary's, Nevada, New Orleans, North Carolina, NCCU, NC-Wilmington, North Dakota, Oakland, Oregon, Princeton, Purdue, South Dakota, SMU, Texas-Arlington, Texas Southern, UC Irvine, Vermont, Villanova, Winthrop

24 barring total disaster I pretty much consider locks: Arizona, Arkansas, Baylor, Butler, Cincinnati, Creighton, Duke, Florida, Florida State, Iowa State, Louisville, Maryland, Miami, Minnesota, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, Saint Mary's, South Carolina, UCLA, Virginia, VCU, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Wisconsin

That leaves 12 available at-large bids. At this snapshot in time I have 23 teams in contention for those final 12 bids. Some, obviously, are much better positioned than others: BYU, Cal, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Houston, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas State, Marquette, Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern, Ole Miss, Providence, Rhode Island, Seton Hall, Syracuse, TCU, USC, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, Wichita State, Xavier
