From Pioneer Press:

Former Gophers offensive coordinator Jay Johnson has been hired to be an offensive analyst at Georgia, according to a report Thursday from 247sports.com.

After one season at Minnesota, Johnson was fired Jan. 3. He was swept up in Athletic Director Mark Coyle’s decision to let go of head coach Tracy Claeys and his staff due, in part, to their responses to the player-led boycott of practices leading up to the Holiday Bowl. The players felt 10 teammates didn’t receive due process from the university before they were suspended for their suspected roles in an alleged sexual assault in September.

One year here, not enough to really get a feel for what he could do.

Did not see this was already on a thread. Mods if you want please merge in with the Jay Johnson thread.

Next question - what the bleep does an "offensive analyst" do? Is this a fancy name for a quality control guy - or does he have a role in game-planning, etc?

Presumably a lot of input on schemes, video review of the team, opposing teams.

No idea what the quality control guys do....

Something to do while waiting for his next job.

These are referred to as "Shadow Staffs"......and Alabama is the Shadow Staff King. It's basically throwing a fancy name (as you suggested) @ someone, paying them a salary of $50k, having them break down film because they can't do anything else, and allows the school a pool of former coaches to slide into vacancies once they occur. Alabama has, at least, 6+ coaches on its shadow staff. They (regular coaching staff), rarely, if ever , cut up film and analyze during season.
