5. P.J. Fleck, Minnesota

P.J. Fleck is the toughest to rank, but not simply because he's a first-year Big Ten coach. The man was an elite—yes, one of his many buzzwords—recruiter in the MAC.

While at Western Michigan, Fleck completely and utterly dominated the conference on the trail. In 2014 and 2016, the Broncos signed nearly twice as many 3-stars than any other MAC team. They ranked No. 1 in the conference from 2014-2016.

His visible passion for football is unmatched by any other coach in the spotlight, but the popular question heading into his debut at Minnesota is whether that "shtick" will work in the Big Ten.

After taking Western Michigan from 1-11 to the Cotton Bowl within three years because of top-notch recruiting, though, it's inarguable Fleck has earned the chance.

With a Big Ten brand behind him, Fleck's recruiting should start to earn the national attention it deserves.

This seems a little premature considering the lack of B1G recruiting data on PJ and that we're kinda not at #5 in recruiting (yet).

It's an opinion. Therefore it's not premature. He's a Big Ten head coach, and this was an attempt to rank those coaches.

It's probably fair from what he did at WMU. It's also not ranking recruiting classes. The best recruiting coaches may not get the best classes. Replace Urbs with Tracy Claeys at Ohio State tomorrow and OSU will still be top 3 in B1G recruiting. PJF may do amazing things here in recruiting and never achieve a top 3 class.

It's clear he, along with the new facilities, will recruit at the highest level in the modern history of U football in the coming seasons. What remains is if that can best other programs like OSU, Michigan, PSU, MSU, and Wisconsin who also know what they are doing and have a built in edge against us.

I think a NR would have worked for this year and next year he could be ranked.

Also they're straight up incorrect on Durkin...

Agree. Most of these type of media pieces are worthless and could easily be written by anyone with a basic knowledge of college football. It gets clicks from fans who like it or fans that hate it.
Ranking Durkin that low after the recruiting year he had makes me wonder if this author has a basic knowledge of CFB.

This is bleacher report we're talking about here...Outside of Matt Miller, I put little stock into what their writers post. Plus slide show articles are diseased.

Also probably unfair to judge prior coaches by the same scale since Fleck has new facilities and probably was given a much larger recruiting budget.

Chryst at #7? That is laughable. His staff, yes. Him, no. He has about as much personality as a damp mop. The guy looks like Deputy Dog. He walks into a living room cue up the cricket ound
followed by the appropriate number of Zzzzzzzzzzz's.

Say what you want, but he brought in classes at Pitt in the mid 30s and continues to do so at WI. That describes more than half the B1G HCs. How they look physically and public perception of personality is meaningless. That's why that argument for Fleck over TC is hollow.

Is it as hollow as the ringing of your anti Fleck posts? You and the rest of the anti Fleck crowd should be afraid, be very afraid. PJ might just take us outside the MN comfort zone and do a few things that are revolutionary here. Don't worry though. They are the same things done at all the major, relevant programs. It may seem scary, but it will be ok.

Is that the line from the movie Taken? Did they ever reuse it in the sequels?

You must be an accountant who works out of his basement. Did you know we put a man on the moon?
