Gophers will start Schulze on the mound. Vavra still out but Kozicky will play SS, Mezzenga starting in CF, Smith moves to LF, Estrada starting in the DH spot, and McDevitt the C.

So why is Vavra out and is Burchill's injury serious? Will he be back healthy next year? We have a lot of pitchers coming back next year and a strong recruiting class? Pitching should be a strength next year.

Gophers strike first as Kozicky works a walk, Pettersen strikes out attempting to bunt, Coffey singles, Hanson hits a sac fly to the LF and Coffey tags to 2nd on it, Smith singles to score Coffey, and Stemper strikes out to end the inning 2-0 Gophers.

Vavra has dealt with back issues all year and I believe he missed time last year with the same thing. They have done a pretty good job of managing Vavra's injury but something must of flared up with the 2 games yesterday. I haven't heard much about Burchill's injury but when it happened it didn't look real good could need some kind of surgery on the arm.

Leadoff single from Estrada, fielders choice retires Estrada and puts Mezzenga at 1st, bunt single from McDevitt, single from Kozicky scores Mezzenga and puts McDevitt at 3rd, sac fly from Pettersen scores McDevitt, and a flyout from Coffey make it 4-1 Gophers.

Iowa gets 2 back on a bloop single that takes a weird hop and turns into a double, a wild pitch, a ground out to score the run, and a solo homerun 4-3.

2 run homerun for Iowa in the 4th to take a 5-4 lead and following a walk Tyler Hanson will come in to pitch.

Hanson escapes without any more damage Gophers trail 5-4 headed to the bottom of the 4th.

Mistake on the base paths cost the Gophers a run. Leadoff walk to Estrada, bunt single from Mezzenga, sac bunt from McDevitt, and a ground ball to SS that shoulda scored Estrada but he froze and instead is out at 3rd. Estrada would have scored easy if he went on contact. 5-4 Iowa after 4.

Gophers get a 1 out infield single from Hanson, a 2 out walk to Stemper, a wild pitch to advance both runners but Estrada is robbed of a 3 run homerun by the Iowa rightfielder who jumped up and brought it back.

Leadoff single from Mezzenga and Iowa will make the call to the bullpen again.

McDevitt strikes out but Mezzenga steals 2nd on strike 3, Kozicky grounds out, Pettersen comes through with the 2 out single to tie things up at 5, Coffey slaps a single to left, and Hanson ends the inning with a fly out to left after long battle at the plate. 5-5 going to the 7th inning.

A fly out, a hit by pitch, and a 5-4-3 double play end the inning to the bottom of the 7th we go.

Iowa will make a pitching change after a Smith leadoff single, Stemper sac bunt, Estrada walk, single from Mezzenga but right at the LF so no chance to score the runner. Bases loaded and 1 out for McDevitt.

Boxwell works to a 2-0 count before an absolute gift strike 1 call and then Boxwell hits into a 4-6-3 double play on the next pitch. Should have had a 3-0 count instead next pitch Iowa is out of the inning.

Anderson strikes out the side facing Iowa's 3, 4, 5 hitters. Top of the order up for the Gophers time to get a run and nail this thing down.

Gophers retired in order with 3 hard hit balls a couple lineouts and a groundout.

Tim Shannon starts the 9th and Stemper catches the first out against the RF wall, a hit batter, a fly out to CF, and with a 2-0 count the Gophers will turn to Brian Glowicki.

Glowicki strikes out the batter and we move to the bottom of the 9th. Hanson, Smith, and Stemper due up for the Gophers.

1 out single from Smith but Stemper follows with a double play. 5-5 We will head to extra innings.

Iowa's middle of the order threatens with a leadoff walk and a 2 out infield single but Stemper makes a great foul ball catch against the wall to end the inning.

A 2 out single from Wilson and a Kozicky walk have the winning run at 2nd for Pettersen.
