Gophers forward Tommy Novak will miss the rest of the season because of a lower-body injury suffered in Saturday’s 4-2 victory over Michigan at Mariucci Arena, the team announced.

Novak, a sophomore, has played in all 57 games and has 41 points (11 goals, 30 assists) since joining the Gophers last year.

“We’re really disappointed for Tommy, and losing him for the year is a big blow for our program,” coach Don Lucia said in a statement. “The good thing is that we are lucky to have some of the top medical professionals in the country here at the University of Minnesota, and we know that Tommy will be in great hands as he recovers and rehabs from this injury.”

Novak collided awkwardly with Michigan’s Dexter Dancs in the Minnesota zone with about 1 minute, 40 seconds to play on Saturday and favored his left leg while being helped off the ice. There was no penalty on the play.

It seems as though whenever the Gophers play the Ann Arbor A-holes a Gopher winds up "out for the season". I remember Taylor Matson's season ended a few years back when he was taken out by a Wolverine. Last year they had a player (can't remember his name) that was suspended several times for dirty hits.
The team Michigan brought to town last week was a truly an awful hockey team. The Gophers played well enough to beat a bad team. The Gophers are really scary in their own zone. Very weak D !
