The report shows a recruit was involved and on video. Is that an NCAA issue?

Wow. This is all so awful. Even the messages between the football players are disgusting. Having just graduated from the U of M, I can tell you that normal, respectful "bros" don't talk about women like that. I think that's already pretty telling and will certainly work against them in this whole case.

Absolutely abhorrent. And I thought it was just six athletes who were involved. Definitely mass expulsions, suspensions, and probations are in order. I changed my mind now that the truth be told.

NCAA sanctions now a possibility.

Could this have happened under Jerry Kill? It appeared that he had more control over his players than Claeys. Good luck to recruiting and to whoever will be the next coach.

How common is this in other campuses? I know that some football players fathered children from multiple women. Is this culture prevalent across Div. 1 College Football?

Time for the U to clean house and put a tight rein on all student athletes.

Didn't at least a handful of these players commit to Jerry Kill? I don't feel like looking up the class and dates of commitment for all the players implicated.

I would like to think the past few years we weren't recruiting a bunch of potential rapists who needed Jerry Kill to tell them that rape was bad.

Glad I took the stance I did earlier which was to applaud the EOAA. Get these scumbags out of the U and do it Yesterday.

This would never happen under Kill, he had the players respect. This is what happens when the U hands the keys over to a guy who should never be a head coach and has no control.

As a lifelong Gopher supporter I am really pissed off.

These are kills recruits. You think nothing like this occured last year or previous?. Blind.

Kill had players committing sexual harassment, assault, and intimidating victims. Of course it would have happened under Kill too, he didn't seem to care about issues like this any more than Claeys does. Just not as important and football.

It appears that Claeys was not aware of this 85-page report when he backed his players. He was blind-sided.

Not only will the BOA probably cancel the bowl trip, there will be another layer of through investigation.

Could this lead to the firing of Tracey Claeys for lack of institutional control? Jerry Kill got the respect of the players. Not Tracey Claeys.

The players involved face expulsions and suspensions. This is the death nail of this current set of coaches.

Time to clean house. NCAA sanctions and possibly criminal prosecution for sex with a recruit who is a minor. Who will be criminally liable?

I don't care how talented these players are. They don't represent the core values of the U.

What actions in this report lead you to believe this was approved by or allowed to happen by the current coaches? And i'm serious in that question, because what you are suggesting is either 1. They knew about these activities and ignored them. or 2. They should have full accountability for 100% of the actions of any student who attends the U and plays football.

I'm not trying to defend anyone in this, i think the players who participate should be gone. I think the coaches have a lot of soul searching to do in how they recurit and how they try to find the right players for the program. But, struggling here to see why a coach should be watching a player in a private residence at 1:30 in the morning at all times.

Can't speak for anyone else, but I guess what disturbs me about Claeys is more the way he has handled it. His tweet last night was not a smart move, and shows a lack of understanding of the situation.

I don't think Claeys backed the kids for this issue, I think Claeys backs the kid for standing up for a cause. People instantly assumes he means this boycott, but I just think he meant in general. With that said, Claeys is lacking control... His players can do whatever they want after a football game? Nobody checking in on them? A recruit being in town and none of the coaches are making sure the recruit is taken care of? Bye Claeys!

I understand where you're trying to go, but one could then argue a parent should then be checking in on their student at the University as well and if a student were to commit a crime the parent was culpable. You're 18+ years old, legally you're responsible for yourself and your actions. Should these guys get extra attention, probably...but i disagree with checking in at 1:30 am to make sure all players are tucked in for the night.

As a coach I don't think you can have your team escorting high school kids and engaging them in sex.

As a coach, not knowing, isn't excuse enough.

My God, this is absolutely disgusting.

I took the sides of the players last night solely on the basis that the cops didn't even bring charges...but WTF? how is that possible after this report?

Now I feel like a huge ass.

Heads need to roll and people need to go to jail over this, or at the very least be put on the sex offender list

The sheer number of people involved necessitates something like an SMU death penalty, IMO.

Ok, as disgusting as the report is I have to back up just a minute. How did the pd not find this stuff out and make arrests /charges?. I doubt highly that the pd investigative team is that much worse than this team. Just unanswered questions, thats all.

Would you allow your Son to come here on a recruiting visit?
The Coaching Staff will assign him a responsible chaperone right???

But most parents aren't around these kids every day. I mean sure, Claeys can't be around them 24/7, but maybe he should appoint some captains or group leaders to look out for each other. I don't know, all I know is this shouldn't happen and I'm not even in the camp of these kids being guilty or not, I'm just saying these situations should never occur if you run a good program.

Good programs spot these kids earlier and if in the program move quickly. I would agree with that.

Just skimming what has been posted about the findings in this thread, the account is absolutely horrific. Almost beyond comprehension. If taken as truth, how is it possible criminal charges could not be filed? Also, why is there not a more organized way to communicate the findings both internally and to the public that helps all involved have confidence in the outcome? Without this, factions are forced to create their own narratives that either amplify or mute the severity of the issues. Is the University leadership powerless in this regard? If so, something must change.

Calm down man; this represents only one side. There is a reason why in this day and age of guilty to proven innocent in rape accusations the police didn't even bother to arrest anyone let alone charge.

This is nauseating and the way these men speak about women should be criminal (but sadly it isn't in most cases). And I am all for punishing them for bad decisions and some even being expelled.

I am also aware that the police did a thorough investigation of the allegations made against what was initially described as 10-20 football players in a gang rape scenario that ultimately not only led to no convictions but didn't even rise to the level of an arrest or charge.

This leads me to have pause when reading the findings by the EOAA. Doesn't mean I disagree with them or that I think the police are incompetent, but the vast valley between the police and EOAA does give me pause.

Do I find it it disgusting? Yes. Do I find it criminal? IDK I haven't seen the 90 second video that the police used to say it was consensual (and neither has the EOAA). And I get that the players deleted texts and messages. I also understand that they did this before the EOAA investigation was even started...and the police saw all the texts and found no evidence of a crime (just gross horrible stuff that is inhuman). I suspect it wasn't to cover up a crime, just horrible taste and disgusting vulgarity.

So I suspect that if fairness and rule of law apply, we will see some one year suspensions rolled back to just the bowl game, some expulsions rolled back to one year suspensions, lots of changes in leadership in the athletic department, Claeys is gone, Coyle might survive but this strike three for kaler IMO and he needs to be gone. And I suspect the new President will fire Coyle when he/she gets hired.
