Don Lucia earned his 700th career victory as a college hockey coach Sunday, reaching the milestone when the Gophers defeated Boston College 4-2.

Boston College is coached by Jerry York, the winningest coach in college hockey history with 1,023 victories.

Vinni Lettieri had the game-winning goal and added two assists, and Jake Bischoff also had a pair of assists for the led the way for the Gophers (6-4-2), who lost Lucia’s first attempt at the milestone when they lost to Northeastern 6-4 on Friday. Mike Szmatula and Brent Gates Jr. each added a goal and an assist and Tyler Sheehy picked up a goal as well, and Eric Schierhorn made 31 saves.

Lucia is the eighth men’s hockey coach in NCAA history to win 700 games, including a school-record 421 victories with the Gophers.
