per the Journal Courier:

Minneapolis Star Tribune reporter Joe Christensen takes us inside the Golden Gophers.

Question: Running backs Shannon Brooks and Rodney Smith have combined for almost 1,300 yards and 15 touchdowns. How is Minnesota using them together?

Answer: It’s 1A and 1B, and then they ride the hot hand. Each had 22 carries two weeks ago against Rutgers, for example. Smith has taken it to a new level this year, with five 100-yard rushing games. So he had 20 carries for 100 yards at Illinois, compared to 12 carries for 59 yards for Brooks.

Q: Even factoring in his concussion, quarterback Mitch Leidner has looked very ordinary this season. How would you assess his performance?

A: He’s still their leader, and he is moving better with a healthy foot. But yes, it hasn’t been a great passing season for him. He’s been under pressure with the offensive line injuries, and aside from Drew Wolitarsky, the receivers have struggled to get open. KJ Maye graduated. Tight end Brandon Lingen had a couple 100-yard receiving games last year, and he’s been hurt all season. So it’s been a combination of factors.
