The outside speculation still hasn’t died down about his future with the program, but coach Tracy Claeys has done just about everything he can at this point to prove he isn’t just a caretaker leading Minnesota. The Gophers have a difficult three-game stretch waiting for them at the end of November, but Claeys can clinch a bowl bid before October is even over by taking care of business on the road against struggling Illinois this weekend. That doesn’t exactly mean anything else after that would be gravy, but locking up a trip to the postseason this early could silence a few remaining skeptics.

Go Gophers!!

Let me be the first to say that's just an awful take. Embarrassing. The Gophers have not beat a good team yet, they are 0-2 in that category. My God, wait til they beat a good team, or TWO, before writing a take like that. Just amazes me people don't seem to realize MN has beat nothing but poor teams this year. The only way Claeys should keep his job is if he goes 3-2 the last 5, wins a bowl game, and is very competitive in the 2 loses. I have a lot of concern about Claeys' 2017 recruiting class.

Are you pining for the days of Tim Brewster & Co.?

Pretty much...

You couldn't or I couldn't watch the Penn St and Iowa games and say...wow those are good teams! Both clearly winnable games. I certainly thought we had better personnel than they did. Run the ball, we win them both fairly easily.

Let's not forget we were outplayed for most of the game against Oregon St and we used some key turnovers to win. Which is how many games turn. We could be 4 or 5 plays from 7-0 right now and we could be 4 or 5 plays from 3-4 as well.

Why is this the alternative?

Exactly! Newer, beautiful stadium, brand new facilities under construction, newer President, new AD that has received more positive praise than any AD in the last 20 years. Coyle won't put up with what these 'just happy it's not Brewster' posters do.

This is simple:
Claeys wins 3 more games in this all-time easiest of schedules and he keeps his job.

Why is this the alternative?

Probably because our odds tilt toward Wacker experience rather than Warmath. Claeys has been the official HC for 10 games. Looking at the track record, we could do a lot worse than 7-3. I'll wait until the win uglies turn into losses before casting my vote of no confidence.
