Fans might not love 11 a.m., kickoffs, but the Gophers have turned these morning starts into an advantage.

On Saturday at Illinois, the Gophers will play their fourth consecutive 11 a.m., game, and sixth of the season. They are 4-1 in these games this year and 15-5 in their past 20, since the start of the 2013 season.

“I think it helps when you go through the whole year having to wake up early to do your morning workouts, and fall camp having to wake up early,” quarterback Mitch Leidner said. “Luckily, that's kind of helped prepare guys through the course of the year."

Go Gophers!!

Might our good record in 11AM games be more due to playing against non-marquee teams in those games? Usually when we play Michigan, OSU, etc. those games are on in the afternoon.

Why ruin a good story?

I am sure someone will pull all the records of the teams we have played at each of the different times of day....but yeah in theory I would say you are probably correct in your assumption.

Good point, but even if that weren't true we'd still have plenty of people saying "I don't care. I hate 11:00 kickoffs!"

TL;DR: Against teams that finished or are currently above .500, we are 5-4 in 11am games since 2013, and 3-11 in games that started in the afternoon/evening. We haven't beaten a P5 opponent that finished with a winning record in a kickoff after 11am since beating Syracuse on 9/22/12.

Since the start of 2013 here are our 11am games:

Western Illinois (W)
San Jose State (W)
@ Northwestern (W)
Nebraska (W)*
Penn State (W)*
@ Michigan State (L)*

Northwestern (W)
Purdue (W)
@ Illinois (L)
Iowa (W)*
Ohio State (L)*
@ Nebraska (W)*

Kent State (W)
@ Northwestern (L)*
Illinois (W)
Indiana State (W)
Colorado State (W)
Iowa (L)*
@ Maryland (W)*

Rutgers (W)

*team finished the season with a winning overall record/currently owns a winning record (FCS excluded)

So in games where the team we played at 11am was above .500 on the season (including teams that are above .500 at this moment for this season), we have a 5-4 record since 2013.

In 2:30 games:

Iowa (L)*
@ Michigan (L)*

@ Indiana (W)
Wisconsin (L)*
MTSU (W)
@ Michigan (W)
@ Wisconsin (L)*
@ Colorado State (W)*
Ohio (W)*

@ Purdue (W)
vs Nebraska (L)
vs Wisconsin (L)*
@ Penn State (L)*

In games where the team we played at 2:30pm was above .500 on the season (including teams that are above .500 at this moment for this season), we have a 2-6 record since 2013.

After 2:30 games:

UNLV (W)*
@ New Mexico St (W)
Eastern Illinois (W)
@ TCU (L)*
San Jose State (W)
TCU (L)*
Michigan (L)*
@ Ohio State (L)*
@ Iowa (L)*

In games where the team we played after 2:30pm was above .500 on the season, we have a 1-5 record since 2013.

Nicely researched, but now that begs the question of what's their record against above .500 teams in 2:30 and night games?

Updating the post above - just did 2:30, night and other games coming shortly.

We don't really need to see those Night Games...I don't think that's going to be too pretty.
