Spread wasn't released in the initial batch so I figured I'd start a thread. This is a tougher one than last week because Rutgers its hard to quantify how terrible Rutgers is....

I'll go with Gophers -13.

So based on the range of responses we clearly have no idea...

It looks like they're waiting to see if Mitch plays, it'll be -20 to 23 if he does, -13 if Rhoda plays. It really should be higher.

Should be around 14 if mitch is still out / in doubt, but really once you hit 14 it kinda doesn't matter (unless you're betting).

Wow - I'm shocked it's that high with Leidner out. I see it's already moved down to 19. I'd give us about a 98% chance of winning this game, but would not at all be surprised to see Rutgers keep it close and cover.

I'm kinda surprised too for the same reason. I guess they're REALLY down on Rutgers.

17 now, sharps money on Rutgers perhaps? Gophers have been terrible at covering as a home fav

I'm not a gambler and I don't always pay close attention to betting spreads. When is the last time the Gophers have been a 17 point favorite or more in a B1G game? How about same question with the added condition of the Gophers starting a backup QB?

Were we even -17 against Indiana St?

Certainly seems that way. That's a huge swing so quickly -- lots of $$. I can see where they're coming from, although Rutgers did just lose at home by 17 to Illinois, who was also playing a backup QB. OTOH, they played Iowa to a tight 14-7 game. Who knows...

PS: I see you're using Tapatalk. Mine hasn't been working with Gopherhole lately -- I just keep seeing a "No Topics" message for every forum. Yours is working fine, I presume? I use Android, and I see you use iPhone, however...

Do people have to bet Rutgers to win, or just that the Gophers wont cover the spread for it to come down?

They're adjusting for money coming in on Rutgers to cover the spread (so yes, people are betting against MN to cover). I doubt many people are betting Rutgers to win outright, but they'd get huge odds if they did...probably on the order of +650. That wouldn't really impact the spread though -- just those moneyline odds. Although if huge money was coming in on the moneyline, casinos might get suspicious someone had inside information, in which case they could adjust the spread. Don't gamble. Stay in school. Etc.

I think they are also seeing that we threw 15 times last game and will likely pound the rock again vs Rutgers. Running a lot means the clock will keep running, giving us less time to build a 3 TD lead required to cover the initial spread.

Yeah backup QB, we like to run, if we have a lead after the half that is two scores we probably don't do much to risk to and sit on it as much as possible.

That monster drive at MD to start the second half ate a huge chunk off the clock.
