per KARE 11:

After his father was jailed his sophomore year, Gaelin’s high school football coach Bruce Larson opened up the doors to his home. An act of kindness Elmore never could have expected, after years in and out of foster homes.

“It was all I ever knew so I didn’t understand there was better out there,” Elmore said. “When I moved in with them I was able to be a kid. I had to think about adult stuff when I was with my parents; when I was in foster care.”

Gaelin would go on to spend the last two-and-a-half years of his high school career at the Larson home; where he would basically become part of the family.

“That was like the first time someone treated me normal,” Elmore said. “That’s what I wanted throughout everything. Someone to treat me like one of their kids.”
