All Things Daniel Oturu Recruiting Thread UPDATED: OTURU A GOPHER!

per Shooter:

Cretin-Derham Hall’s Daniel Oturu, the star of the Gophers men’s basketball incoming recruiting class, will undergo right shoulder surgery on Friday and miss summer play.

Rehabilitation for the 6-foot-10, 220-pound center, whose slam dunk with a half-second left against Apple Valley last month won the Class 4A state championship for the Raiders, has been counted on to play as a freshman at Minnesota next season. The rehab is expected to take four months.

Until Oturu injured the shoulder two weeks ago in practice at the Hoop Summit world junior tournament in Portland, Ore., he was to play in the accelerated Twin Cities Pro-Am summer league at DeLaSalle High.

per Marcus:

After leading Cretin-Derham Hall to a state championship last month, Daniel Oturu was invited to play in the Nike Hoop Summit in Portland to compete for the World team.

In his first practice, the four-star big man suffered a shoulder injury and was sidelined for the rest of the week, including for the game vs. Team USA on national television.

Oturu's right shoulder needs reconstructive surgery, which is scheduled for Friday. The typical timeline for a full recovery from shoulder surgery is 4-6 months.

The Gophers coaching staff and Oturu are expecting he will be ready once the season starts in November. He should compete with redshirt sophomore Eric Curry and redshirt senior Matz Stockman at center.

Oturu's injury is similar to what former Maple Grove guard Brad Davison suffered and played through during his freshman year at Wisconsin this season. His shoulder continued to pop during Big Ten play, so he eventually had surgery following the season.

Davison reportedly is ahead of schedule in his recovery and should be cleared to play by September.
