The Gophers added a nationally recruited local kicker to their 2017 recruiting class Wednesday, when East Ridge’s Grant Ryerse committed to Minnesota.

If Ryerse holds his commitment through signing day in February, he’ll become the first kicker or punter to come to the Gophers on scholarship since Ryan Santoso signed in 2013.

Special teams have been very good, and it looks like we have landed the key to continued success.
If you did not realize how valuable Peter Mortell was, then you will never appreciate special teams. From flipping the field, to pinning an opponent inside their 10. He was worth 7-10 points a game.

The Michigan game last year when Mortell had an off game is a prime example
