Gopher Softball 2017

Figured this would be a tough game. Northwestern is incredibly scrappy and well coached. Thankfully for us, they simply don't have the horses to keep up with our maroon and gold ladies. Very nice win to start the tourney.

Illinois sits at 37-17 and the biggest win of their season was 4-3 over the Gophers in Champaign in walk off fashion. Groenewegen took the loss in relief of Fiser. Gophers committed 4 errors on the day which certainly didn't help the cause. Only 1 of the Illini runs were earned.
Nicole Evans bangs in runs and hits home run and Breanna Wonderly does most of the work in the circle. 17 home runs on the year for Evans and over 200 innings pitched for Wonderly. No one else on the staff has half that many innings. 7 hitters in the lineup with averages over .300, with Abello being the other long ball threat.

Fiser it is.

Wonderly in the circle for Illinois.

Not a good play by Lindaman, but terrible call.

Yeah, should have been interference, but that's a terrible job by Lindaman waiting that long. Let Illinois risk the 2-3-2 double play, plus you still can get interference on the throw back to home.

Do we not have another hitter better than Sara to be DP when Amber is pitching?

Ladies aren't focused defensively. Gotta get their heads in it.

Effectively error #4 there, either need a better throw to home or Amber to cut it and prevent other 2 from moving up

I love the gopher helmets.

Ill pitcher's changeup is too slow, 20mph difference from already slow rise/drop gives you enough time to still foul it off after you commit to faster. Should be easier second time through

Also, kinda tired of hearing "coming at you". Was cool for a call to have in the intro videos, but kinda loses its value when this is 4th time already this weekend

Arneson needs to play better. 2 ****ty calls against the Gophers so far. Time to get pissed ladies! :)

Lefthanded catcher is the reason it happened. Ump has to do a better job on that. Two calls blown by her.
