Gopher Softball 2017

Winegarner threw a good one for Northwestern. Limited Purdue to 2 hits, struck out 8 and walked 3 in the 6-1 Wildcat victory. All the scoring done in the 1st inning. Purdue coach is probably kicking herself wondering why she chose to go with Johnson instead of Moody, but Johnson had just thrown well in the series against Nebraska. Guess you never know.

Penn State got a good performance out of Laubach in the circle and they go on to defeat Nebraska 5-0. Another 2 hitter thrown. Threw just 89 pitches, walked a couple and struck out a couple. 12 seed beats 5 seed.

Michigan State with a comeback win against Indiana, 8-7. Lots of miscues by the Spartans, but they prevail in spite of them. Watching these other teams the more a person can appreciate Groenewegen. Doesn't walk people, has a change up that she can get over the plate, keeps it down, can strike people out to get out of a jam, etc.

Menz is tough. She has good zip and throws a change up. Very accomplished pitcher for a Freshman. Really good game by her. Wisconsin 3-0 over Iowa.

Or you could go Fiser tomorrow in a game you should win no matter who is pitching. But I think you are right, it will be Fiser to start Saturday and Sara to relieve if the game gets dicey, which it won't.

Or go Sara 3 and likely Carlie can take the last 2 innings tomorrow

Softball: Wildcats cruise past Purdue in Big Ten Tournament’s first round

It’s not often that one inning of a softball game wholly determines its outcome.

But on Thursday morning in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament, No. 8 seed Northwestern scored all six of its own runs in an explosive first inning, leading to a 6-1 defeat of No. 9 seed Purdue.

What is this "pitching mound" that the announcer is talking about?

You can't see the mound?

It must have gotten flattened out already. I suppose next inning we'll be required to try to figure out where the rubber is

There's the one great play that saves a perfect game from Allie

Hopefully tomorrow's pitcher is a bit faster than Bond, everybody getting too far in front with all the hard pull fouls

Great read by Allie on that flare to not get forced at second

Walkoff mercy makes the perfect game easier

Put Amber in for the last out? Sara's running out of gas
