Here's how it looks going into the final weekend of the regular season. My hunch is the Gophers will receive an at-large bid for being the B1G regular-season champion, but clearly their resume is on shaky ground. Crunching the numbers, I think Maryland and Ohio State have the best resumes among the B1G's potential at-large candidates.

Michigan State stays in winner's bracket with 4-3 win over Maryland

MSU, Iowa, and Indiana are the three teams the Gophers least want to win the B1G Tournament. They're the remaining teams in the tournament who would have no shot to receive an at-large bid.

Next up #4 Ohio State vs. #8 Iowa at 1 p.m. in the other winner's bracket game, followed by #3 Indiana vs. #6 Maryland at 1 p.m. in an elimination game, then Michigan vs. the OSU/Iowa loser at 9 p.m. in another elimination game.

SS, With Georgia finishing the season with a below .500 record are they even eligible for the NCAA tournament?

SS, With Georgia finishing the season with a below .500 record are they even eligible for the NCAA tournament?

I don't think so. Bulldogs certainly one of the teams on the right side of the "RPI range" that won't receive an at-large bid. Would expect there'll be quite a few others. Also have to believe at least 1 of the 11 ACC teams currently in the RPI Field of 64 will be left out, as well. Will be interesting to see who doesn't make it (if any) among North Carolina, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, and Boston College.

Iowa stuns OSU 5-4 to remain in winners bracket

Hawkeyes score 4 in the bottom of the 9th to tie it, then score the game-winner in bottom of 10th.

Next Up: Indiana vs. Maryland elimination game at 5:15, followed by Ohio State vs. Michigan in another elimination game around 9.

Meanwhile, the Hawkeyes and Michigan State sit back and hope both games go 15 innings with a lot of pitchers being used.

Latest D1BASEBALL projections have the Gophers in as a #2 still. Other B1G teams in are Michigan, Nebraska, and Ohio State as #3 seeds while Maryland is listed as one of the next 5 teams out right now.

My brother keeps yelling at me that a conference title has to count for something!

American Conference likely a bid-stealer

Will get an extra bid with neither Tulane or East Carolina earning the automatic bid.

West Virginia in the Big XII one win away from being another bid-stealer. Gopher fans need to pull for TCU to win Big XII.

Penultimate RPI Field of 64 (through May 28): Ohio State the bubble cutline at #44

Here's how it looks going into the final day of the regular season. My hunch is the #52 Gophers and #44 Ohio State (if it doesn't win B1G Tournament) will receive at-large bids. Iowa/MSU would become the 3rd B1G bid if they earn the automatic bid, leaving #37 Michigan and #46 Nebraska to truly sweat out Selection Monday.

There are 5 sure-fire potential bid-stealers in the 13 conference tournaments yet to be completed. Gopher fans want the following teams to lose today: Georgia Southern (Sun Belt finalist), Iowa (B1G finalist), Michigan State (potential B1G finalist), West Virginia (Big XII finalist), and William & Mary (CAA).

I'll post the final one of these Monday morning before the Selection Show

Couple of other games to watch with teams that might find themselves on the bubble if they lose today. Washington and Utah play for the Pac 12 title Washington probably still gets in without it but Utah needs the auto bid. Creighton is a bubble team and they play Xavier who has to have the auto bid and think Creighton would have to win twice. Another one is the AAC Championship as both teams seem to be right around the bubble but more of the projections I've seen have UCONN in and Houston out so go UCONN I guess. Another is Sam Houston State and Southeastern Louisiana as most projections have Sam Houston in and Southeastern one of the first teams out. The UNCW and William & Mary game is interesting as they still have to finish game 1 from yesterday after UNCW blew a 8-1 lead in the 9th and then the rains came so UNCW would have to be beat twice today.

My Beavers hopefully get in after taking the first two from UCLA. A sweep should lock them in. The loss to Iowa in the tourney could really put us in jeopardy.

Ohio State wins the B10 tourney title. Iowa season over.

Only real bid stealer so far is Utah as they beat Washington to claim the Pac 12 auto bid. Only one chance left as William & Mary beat UNC Wilmington in the completion of their game from yesterday and they will now face each other for the CAA auto bid.

Gophers are going to get in to join Ohio State. B1G probably gets a 3rd bid, but not a certainty. I'd take Maryland over either Nebraska or Michigan. A lot more quality wins and played much tougher schedule than both. It's a joke if Michigan gets a bid. They were terrible down the stretch.

The 16 regional hosts were announced tonight (the full field will be revealed tomorrow at 12 ET on ESPNU)

Baton Rouge, Louisiana – LSU (42-18)
Charlottesville, Virginia – Virginia (37-20)
Clemson, South Carolina – Clemson (42-18)
College Station, Texas – Texas A&M (45-14)
Columbia, South Carolina – South Carolina (42-15)
Coral Gables, Florida – Miami (FL) (45-11)
Fort Worth, Texas – TCU (42-15)
Gainesville, Florida – Florida (47-13)
Lafayette, Louisiana – UL Lafayette (41-19)
Louisville, Kentucky – Louisville (47-12)
Lubbock, Texas – Texas Tech (41-16)
Nashville, Tennessee – Vanderbilt (43-17)
Oxford, Mississippi – Ole Miss (43-17)
Raleigh, North Carolina – North Carolina State (35-20)
Starkville, Mississippi – Mississippi State (41-16)
Tallahassee, Florida – Florida State (37-20)

William & Mary beats UNCW 14-9 scoring 5 runs in the bottom of the 8th stealing another bid. Looking at UNCW's resume they look to be in but they didn't look very good at all watching them tonight.

Final RPI Field of 64: I'll differ with the RPI on 4 at-large selections

This is if teams were selected for the NCAA Tournament based only on RPI, which they're not. The Gophers just miss out here, but as you'll see in my thoughts below I think they'll get an at-large bid. Not real worried about the Gophers getting left out.

Thoughts?
Of the 33 at-larges the RPI produces, I'll say 4 of those won't be selected: #20 Georgia Tech, #37 Georgia, #38 Michigan, and #41 South Alabama.

In their place, I will have the #50 Gophers, #52 Long Beach State, #55 Washington, and, going completely off the "first 8 out" at-large board, I'll take a flyer on #59 Maryland.

Not real comfortable that I have 5 teams in the field from the Pac 12, but that's the way it worked out. Won't be surprised if 1 or 2 of Arizona State/Oregon State/Washington get left out.

I didn't put West Virginia in, but if there's a team with a RPI in the 60s getting an at-large bid it'll be the surging Mountaineers.

I think Nebraska and Michigan are a package deal. Either they both get in or they both get left out. I'm going with the latter.

Think it's very rare when a team that doesn't make its conference tournament receives an at-large bid, but I think it happens this year. North Carolina will make the field, but most likely at the expense of another ACC team. Thinking it'll be Georgia Tech crying in their beer.

Teams I'd really like to see get at-large bids? Boston College and West Virginia.

Teams who may get at-large bids, but absolutely don't deserve one? Michigan and Creighton.

My last 4 in are: #59 Maryland (last team in), #55 Washington, #52 Long Beach State, and #50 Gophers.

My first 4 out are: #20 Georgia Tech (first team out), #41 South Alabama, #63 West Virginia, and #48 Nebraska.

Why are Terrapins my last team in?

Why do I have Maryland as my last team in? 9-5 vs. RPI top 50, 17 wins vs. RPI top 100, #24 overall SOS, #6 non-conference SOS, 4-2 vs. the B1G's 2 champions (Gophers & OSU), and an 11-6 record vs. teams projected into the field.

The 9 top-50 wins ties Maryland with OSU for the most in the B1G. As a reference point the Gophers have only 3. The only thing holding the Terps back is the 30-27 overall record.

Some specifics on the Terps resume?

Swept B1G tourney champion Ohio State.

Won 2 of 3 @ Big West champ Cal State Fullerton.

Beat likely at-large qualifier Southeastern Louisiana. (also own a loss to likely qualifier East Carolina)

Won 2 of 3 from NEC regular season and tourney champ Bryant.

Won 1 of 3 @ B1G regular season champ Gophers.

Won 2 of 3 from Atlantic 10 regular season and tourney champ Rhode Island.

Minnesota is in they play Wake Foroest in Texas A&M regionals.

Last 3 in were Nebraska, SE Louisiana, and South Alabama while the first 3 out were North Carolina, Oregon State, and West Virginia. I thought Oregon State would have been in probably would have took them over a few of the teams that got in.

A couple of jobs opened up today as both Texas and Alabama are looking for new coaches. Gotta think the Texas one especially will draw some of the top coaches in the country.

RPI produced all but 4 of the at-large selections.

I missed 3. Had North Carolina, Oregon State, and Maryland in. Georgia Tech, South Alabama, and Nebraska made it instead.

Maryland certainly should have been in over Nebraska, and it's not even close. Nevertheless, glad the B1G got 3 bids.

I am shocked with the 2 seed for the Gophers, did not see that coming.
