Remember Holman was a JR in college when most of us first saw him. Jones just finished his Jr year in high school.

As a JR:
Holman, 9 ppg, 3.9 reb, 1.4 blocks, in 21 minutes.
As a SR
10ppg, 5.3 rpg, 1.6bpg.

Solid numbers but not lights out. Athletic, with reach, and active. Not a good rebounder.

Jones will probably be 6-10 230 as freshmen in college.

I saw Holman in high school and have seen Jones. Holman was better IMO.

Go Gophers!!

per Bossi:

Tray Jackson

Whose gotta have him? Missouri

Why? From the very first moment I met Cuonzo Martin several years ago while he was still an assistant at Purdue, he made it clear to me that he wants his guys to be tough. Jackson is tough as they come despite a relatively slender frame. He's been to campus and the Tigers are in heated battles for other combo forward targets like E.J. Liddell and Malik Hall. Ideally they could land any two of those guys, but getting at least one is imperative.

The competition: He's visited Oklahoma officially while Minnesota, Virginia Tech, Xavier and DePaul are among the others who have been prominent.

Anthony Walker

Whose gotta have him? Maryland

Why? With twins Makhi Mitchell and Makhel Mitchell already committed, Maryland doesn't have to have another big guy. But man, Walker would give them a totally different element because of his athleticism and ability to attack big men off the dribble. He's local and while he's not close to a finished product, he's got upside to become a fixture.

The competition: Minnesota, Kansas, Illinois, St. John's, Seton Hall, Rhode Island, VCU and others.

Shedrick attends a high school near us and is my son's age. Apparently he's having a breakout summer and getting lots of attention. NCSU is interested but hasn't offered yet. Nebraska offered a while back and he recently got offers from Wake Forest, ASU and Xavier.

I can't imagine a NC kid going north to MN but you never know. We'll have to go watch him play this winter, and wear our Gopher gear to the game.

Christian Braun looks like a young JP Macura...I'll take him.

Also, with the number of PF offers, is that a sign we are not getting Zeke or Matthew? Or is a pressure tactic?
Not a sign we aren't getting Zeke or Matt just offers out to good talent. Really not that many offers to PFs with just Hurt, Nnaji, Hall, Jackson, and Jones and a few of those guys offer some versatility to play 3 or the 4.

A little audit humor!!!

Kinda surprised no one has posted this yet. 247 ranks him the #80 overall player. Gophers offered a few days ago and the article title says he's interested in visiting. Offers from Georgia Tech, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Kansas State, Dayton, and Rutgers in the last month. A lot of mid-major offers too, maybe he was considered a lower level prospect and recently raised his stock.

Also local 2019 recruit David Roddy picked up an offer from Northwestern (presumably for basketball).

Not sure whether to post this in the 2018 or 2019 recruiting thread, but Jon Rothstein is reporting that we've been recruiting Sam Cunliffe, a transfer from Kansas. In the tweet, Jon lists that Grand Canyon and Maryland are also recruiting him. I don't know who else is recruiting him, but a quick google search indicates that he wants to go to Washington.

If this is another player to bank for the 2019-2020 year, I would imagine that means Pitino has been reassured from Coyle that his job is safe barring something catastrophic this year.

per Marcus:

“Some schools were toying with the possibility of 2018, because of how well I played this summer,” Johnson told the Star Tribune. “Minnesota is on me only for 2019 now.”

Johnson, who played for Kingdom Hoops in AAU ball, is primarily a shooter, but his athleticism to play both forward positions also impressed Power Five schools this summer, including the Gophers, Nebraska, Gonzaga and Stanford. No offers yet, but Johnson is on their radar for sure.

Despite no longer a 2018 option, Johnson hopes to remain in contact with the Gophers for their next recruiting class. He was invited to the U’s team camp at the new Athletes Village facility in June.

“It definitely would be amazing to play in the Big Ten,” Johnson said. “The new facilities up there were great when I went up there for their camp. I was definitely blown away by the new facilities. And the coaching staff was great, so it seems like they’re going in a good direction up there.”

First good news I’ve heard in long time for our 2019 class. I’d love this get 6foot6 guard I love big guards. Got size to defend multiple positions and rebound...haven’t seen him play but just like big guards in general

Also visiting first football game I love it. Hope Pitino introduces him to fleck

Based on. ...?

No perennial powers, neither of the other schools is more of a destination then MN for a player (ie no greater chance of exposure nor playing in an NCAA tournament). Not saying that means we get him, just saying from a list of that nature makes it feel more like a reasonable chance than say a Michael Hurt with us on his list with 2-4 blue blood programs (if he even includes us in his final list)

Is from Mississippi originally though. I don't have any strong feeling whether we end up with him or not but I really like Crowley and I like that he is visiting for the first football game when there should be plenty of excitement around campus.

Get Washington in there to help recruit him. Younger guy with a following and a big personality.

Ryan James dropped a ton of 2019 recruiting knowledge on the latest "One and Done" podcast. I highly recommend the podcast as its one of the few places you can find Gopher hoops recruiting info these days. I believe the podcast came out before the Austin Crowley news and Ryan stated that he had been contacting all the 2019 Gopher offers to see who was interested in a visit. I don't remember the exact terminology he used, but Ryan stated something like the 3 guys who were definitely planning on visiting were Austin Crowley, Myron Gardner, and Sam Freeman. For those that don't know, Gardner is a wing out of Michigan who Ryan said the Gophers really liked at a tournament this Summer in Georgia and Freeman is a post player out of Texas who the Gophers saw at their own team camp and liked. He didn't go through everybody, but Robbie Beran was the next name that seemed most likely to visit based on James comments. A kid that Ed Conroy has been recruiting, Jordan Wright out of Louisiana, has scheduled a visit to Virginia Tech but nothing with Minnesota. Jalen Hill a wing out of Vegas who Rob Jeter has been recruiting didn't have the Gophers in his 3 schools he's definitely planning on visiting, but he might take a trip to visit a number of Midwest schools and Minnesota could receive a visit under that scenario.

For the especially bad news, Ryan said he talked with Tray Jackson (PF at Lindsted's old Sunrise Christian school) and that Jackson told him that he was planning visits to Xavier and Missouri and mentioned those two schools along with Oklahoma where he previously visited and didn't mention the Gophers in this top group. Jackson was a guy the staff put a lot of time in to this Summer. Further, in the discussion about Zeke Nnaji, Ryan stated it would be "tough" for the Gophers to land him and specifically mentioned Arizona as a spot for him. (My own note: There have been two "crystal balls" put in for Zeke recently to Indiana)
