I think a two seed in regions is about right. It could go higher or lower considering how we play from here on out. Big Ten Network was giving all their love to Michigan and Michigan State as the conference favorites last night. I got the feeling they felt that Minnesota was doing all they could to hang on to one of the top spots in the Big Ten. I'm more concerned about winning rather than the experts opinion.

The Gophers and MSU's conference schedules are basically flip-flopped. The Gophers have the toughest part of their schedule behind them and they did well, sweeping Michigan and winning the Maryland and Iowa series. They've built a good resume so far, now the job is to avoid bad losses as much as possible (i.e. Northwestern, Purdue, mid-week cupcakes Kansas, NDSU, SDSU).

Conversely, MSU's schedule gets tougher now, with series remaining vs. Indiana, Michigan, Nebraska, Iowa, and Maryland, all currently .500 or better in the B1G. That's actually good news for Sparty because its SOS ranking needs help. Three of those 5 series are in East Lansing, and they get a home game in the Michigan series, as well.

RPI Field of 64 (through April 20)

Still sitting at 4 B1G teams in the projected field, but Michigan State likely to drop out if it doesn't hold on to first place this weekend.

Just looked, Warren Nolan predicts Indiana to go 3-6 the rest of the way and be well out of consideration. Pretty nice conference record so far, but barely over .500 in the non-conference. They need to win the tournament to get in.

They predict us to go 7-2 the rest of the way (in B10) and end with an RPI of 25.

The B1G is looking like a 2-, maybe 3-bid conference

Gophers and Michigan are locks to make the tournament, as long as they don't implode these last 2 weeks.

A 3rd bid is possible among Maryland, Michigan State, and Nebraska, probably whichever one does the most damage in the B1G Tournament. Indiana (#101) too far gone RPI-wise to get an at-large bid.

RPI Field of 64 (through May 15)

A reminder, this is the field if it was selected solely by RPI, which it most definitely is not. A safe guess is 6-10 of the at-large selections will come from beyond the "bubble cutline", currently #48 and held by Kentucky.

Princeton is the first automatic qualifier into the field, as the Tigers defeated Yale 2 games to 1 in the Ivy League's best-of-3 championship series.

Bubblicious Tuesday: Bubble RPI Range Currently #41-56

The RPI bubble range heading into Tuesday is #41-56. RPIs #41-48 are considered to be in the field, while RPIs #49-56 include three (projected) automatic qualifiers and five others in the "first 8 out" range. As noted above, #48 Kentucky currently is the "last team in".

Certainly there will be at-large teams with RPIs better than #41 that won't make the tournament and, conversely, there likely will be 2-3 at-large bids doled out to RPIs worse than #48. It's safe to say if your RPI is above #40 on Selection Monday and you are not an automatic qualifier, you will have to sweat it out.

That's currently where the Gophers sit, though they are the current placeholder for the B1G's automatic bid. Finish strong by beating SDSU tonight and winning the Ohio State series and the Gophers should be all but golden heading into the B1G Tournament.

I thought the same thing. If we beat South Dakota today and win the series with Ohio State, we are in the NCAA tourney for sure. More than likely as a two seed. If we win the Big Ten tournament then we'll probably be in as a one seed. Accomplishing this is going to be tough, but hopefully the boys are up to the challenge.

Yep. Can't see any way Gophers aren't selected (even if 0-2 in Omaha) as long as they take care of business this week. I actually think Michigan could be in some trouble if they lose the series to Illinois and then go 0-2 barbecue in Omaha. Wolverines faltering down the stretch, as is Michigan State, which basically pi**ed away a potential at-large bid with consecutive series losses to Nebraska and Iowa.

Bubblicious Wednesday: Bubble RPI Range Remains #41-56, Gophers fall to #46

The RPI bubble range heading into Wednesday remains #41-56. Nebraska was the big winner Tuesday night, picking up a significant road win in Omaha vs. Creighton.

There are no bubble games tonight, but another conference tournament (SWAC) gets underway this morning.

Bubblicious Thursday: Bubble RPI Range Remains #41-56, Gophers hold at #46

The RPI bubble range remains #41-56 heading into Thursday's action. Plenty of Bubblicious games today, as most series this week are Thursday-Saturday so teams get an extra day of rest before conference tournaments start next week.

Very minor changes in the "last 8 in" and "first 8 out", with no new teams moving in. That will change after today. There are significant quality-win opportunities for Boston College (@ Georgia Tech), Louisiana Tech (host Rice), and Alabama (host South Carolina).

Bubblicious Monday -- RPI Bubble Range Shrinks to #36-51; Gophers #47

The Gophers drop to the wrong side of the bubble range, but I think this squad receives an at-large bid even with an 0-2 showing in Omaha. A B1G regular-season champion with a RPI likely in the 50s highly unlikely to get left out of the field.

Bubblicious Thursday: Bubble RPI Range Currently #37-52; #50 Gophers in some peril

For what it's worth, even though #36 Michigan is just above the "last 8 in" range I think the Wolverines are toast if they lose to the Gophers this afternoon. Conversely, the Gophers most likely are safe even with a loss to the Wolverines -- doubt they'd leave out the B1G regular-season champion with a RPI sure to be in the 50s -- but they'd be wise to win today to take away any lingering doubt.
