Official 2018 Recruiting Updates Thread: Links, Tweets, Videos, Stories, Rumors, etc.

It's perplexing how Kill/Claeys have sent so many guys to the NFL with those crappy draft classes.

Sawvel was an excellent DB coach. He found several under recruited guys that turned out great. Without him....would we have had Winfield Jr.?

He was the one coach that I had really hoped that Fleck would retain.....

per Greder:

Reiglsperger got his first scholarship from Kentucky in January 2016 and made his first campus visit to see Fleck at Western Michigan that February. Fleck offered Reigelsperger a scholarship on that stop in Kalamazoo, Mich., but he committed to Kentucky last February. He rescinded that commitment Oct 9.

“I’ve moved on and I’m a Gopher now,” Reigelsperger said of his decision. “I’m going to be a Gopher for three or four years and for years after that. I’m focused on getting a state (championship) ring (with his high school team), and if that doesn’t work out, I’m focused on winning a national championship at Minnesota.”

Reigelsperger plans to enroll at Minnesota in January. The Gophers anticipate anywhere from four to eight pledges from the 2018 class starting college this winter.

Does anyone have any idea how many scholies are left for 2018?

Is PJF in pursuit of OL? JC OL? What about DT? ILB?

What's with JC OT Trevor Elbert? 247Sports showed he was enrolled at TAMU on June 21. But, he is shown to have an interest in the Gophers.

We're at 23 commits
Can sign 25, PJ indicated signing full class which indicates he expects few transfers

Sounds like you can expect around 3-4 more commits or so, not sure if that might mean we see a couple more decommits as well or not. JUCO OL definitely seems to be one target, an athlete type Williams the Baylor commit is at the top of that list, and maybe another DL and DB.

But did we have 3 spots unfilled? I know we signed at least one OL after signing day as well.

With Austin Schirck transferring that opens up at least 1 from last years class.

With the early signing period that will change things I would think. If 23 guys sign in December then you can concentrate on fewer guys in a sense as the 23 don't need to be continually called every day I wouldn't think (keep in touch yes, but able to focus elsewhere).

Whats your point?

I think he's saying your point is overstated because we have few players in the NFL. Kill and CO did a nice job of developing some players but there was one or two a year. Not bad I think. Considering the NFL span probably goes all the way back to Mason, and Brewster didn't send many to the NFL either.

per Shama:

U After USA Player of Year Candidate

Gopher football fans may want to cross their collective fingers hoping head coach P.J. Fleck and his staff can hang on to Georgia prep football wide receiver Rashod Bateman who is a national player of the year candidate.

Bateman is one of 10 candidates for the American Family All-USA Offensive Player of the Year award reported on this fall in USA Today. The 6-foot-1 Tifton, Georgia star has so far this season caught 55 passes in nine games for 1,198 yards and 15 touchdowns, according to stats from Maxpreps.com. Bateman is averaging 21 yards per reception and verbally committed in June to Minnesota’s 2018 recruiting class.

Yeah I think they'll take 4 more, 28 total. They're only at 81 scholarships right now and there will probably be a couple more departures. It would be nice to get a JUCO OL or two. With Connelly's injury, they need more, older OL depth.

I claim not to put a ton of weight on recruiting stars, but...

We really need to be well into the 3s to compete in the B1G. If we hold onto our best recruits for '18 I can see several getting boosted to 4 stars. It would be nice for some bragging rights.

I heard Burns state that Rashod Bateman has a VERY good chance of getting bumped up to a 4*... Any others? I could potentially see Brennan Armstrong getting bumped up as he is putting up crazy numbers in Ohio.

When do that type of regrading happen?

Let's get to December and get him to sign early. Two months away.

per Sid:

• If the Gophers are looking for a freshman quarterback to play next year, they might have one in Brennan Armstrong, whom coach P.J. Fleck originally recruited out of Ohio when Fleck was at Western Michigan. Armstrong’s Shelby High School team is 9-0 and won 59-10 over Oak Harbor last week, Armstrong completed eight of 14 passes for 153 yards and four touchdowns, and rushed 11 times for 151 yards and two TDs.
