Official 2018 Recruiting Updates Thread: Links, Tweets, Videos, Stories, Rumors, etc.

Hope you're being sarcastic- don't know many kids who wouldn't want to play for their Dad at that level given the opportunity.

A large part of the college experience and growing up is moving away from your parents for the first time. Hard to do if you play for your dad.

Cameron is congratulating himself on his birthday... to the university... with a graphic the university sent him?

Social media is weird...

I have to agree. Lies of 3 stars again this year, but their offer lists have been better than last year. Doesn't make the players necessarily better, but one hopes it will correlate.

I've noticed that as well. I've always looked at offers as being likely a better gauge of a player's ability.

Thought I heard we had at least one visitor this weekend... Know who? And odds we get one or more commits this weekend?

Also unofficially visiting this weekend according to 247:

Devin O'Rourke (2018 4-star DE): http://247sports.com/Player/Devin-ORourke-94539 - he's committed to Northwestern so not sure if he's still coming
Ishawn Stewart (2018 3-star WR/ATH): http://247sports.com/Player/Ishawn-Stewart-45572631

Next week:

Jornell Manns (2018 3-star CB): http://247sports.com/Player/Jornell-Manns-94046
Oyenmwen Uzebu (2018 3-star OT): http://247sports.com/Player/Oyenmwen-Uzebu-91075
Carlos Vettorello (2018 3-star OG): http://247sports.com/Player/Carlos-Vettorello-92023
Nick Fulwider (2018 3-star DE): http://247sports.com/Player/Nick-Fulwider-46037818

Not sure if this has been mentioned here, but Ed Warinner's son is a 3-star MLB. The 247 crystal ball just went hard to Michigan State, since he just got an offer from them. He's also visiting Iowa soon.

Interesting to note that he does not have a Gophers offer, and his listed recruiter is his dad...

I'm assuming that is Jim Tressel's kid recruiting him at Sparty?

KSTP story on Benny Sapp III:

Eden Prairie cornerback Benjamin Sapp III, who goes by B.J., was the Gophers' first 2018 verbal commitment. KSTP Sports recently connected with Sapp III and his well-known trainers.

Sapp III's dad is former Vikings cornerback Benny Sapp, and dad's friend, Tyrone Carter, also helps in training. Carter played safety in the NFL for the Vikings, Steelers, Jets, Redskins, and Chargers. He's also a Gophers legend.

B.J. is coming back from two ACL injuries in his left knee, so he hasn't played football in two years. But came upon the national scene after his freshman year at St. Thomas Aquinas, a powerhouse in Fort Lauderdale. He was said to have held offers from Clemson, Florida, and other big-time universities.

Nice group of recruits. Two good-sized OLs. Fulwider looks like a very interesting DL/Edge guy and Stewart and Manns looks great as well. Great offer lists on all these guys.

I'm not holding out much hope on O'Rourke, but switching him would be something big.

As for the Tressels, let's not forget Dick's other son, Luke, who was on the Gopher staff for a few seasons.

Looking at average rankings on 247, Gophers are behind OSU, PSU, MI, NE, MSU, WI, MD, and in a tie with NW. Slightly ahead of IA, IL, and IN. Purdue and Rutgers yet to get a commit.

Looks like very good chance to finish in top ten in the conference if things keep up like this. Third or fourth in Big Ten West would be nice.
