Mason, McBrayer and Dorsey suspended

Just saying that people do take other people's cell phones and post stupid stuff on it. A few people are acting like it isn't possible. My roommates and I messed around with each others' computers all the time back in college.

True. It CAN happen, but at the end of the day his job is to not embarrass the University & he failed. He could have chosen not to run a train on the girl, or to not film it, or to not let someone else get access to the phone, etc. He's supposed to be representing the U.

Pitino thought his players were liars and punished them for something they didn't do?

even if someone else, outside the Gopher program, posted those pictures on Dorsey's twitter, I think our 3 guards deserved to be suspended. no matter how you look at it, they allowed this situation to happen. it's a detriment to the program and they acted unbecoming to their expectations.

having said that, i don't think/hope this discipline extends beyond one game

Well, Nadine can you confirm or deny Patrick's claims? Did he really see this coming?

He didn't see a sex video coming, but yes, he absolutely said that...in more colorful words. Like him or not, Ruesse is a straight shooter, he doesn't lie.

Ruessee loves to pissoff GH'er... He's a real Mo'effing dry drunk in print, but check him out on radio, decent listen IMO.

Wow. That's news to me.. How we going to use that scolly?

Off topic... Was talking to a Lakeville North insider at a game this weekend, Pitino want's '17 Nathan Reuvers bad.
As long as Reuvers is a Gopher....

True. It happened to Brewster when someone hacked his account late one night and fired off some insults at Pat Reusse and it happened to Shede one night when someone hacked his account and tried to buy weed from a girl on Instagram. As far as I can tell no one ever gets f'd up and posts stupid things, just lot's of hacking and stolen phones going on.

THe most devious hackers were the ones that hacked into Kurt Rambis's twitter, liked some porn, and then left it alone. So subtle, so diabolical.

The real truth is much of what is being reported by the paper is coming from this site. Where 99% of the posters really don't know exactly what happened (who actually posted it, who agreed to specific acts, how it went down). 99% didn't see video, people are guessing at some stuff. The U is investigating what went down and that is good. i don't have a problem with everyone here trying to sort it out and processing theories, etc. but when the news sources are quoting what is said on the Gooher Hole as their main source of information that sounds really dangerous to me.

This story is making me really curious about what Morris did. Morris got a harsher punishment, he was kicked off the team, while these three were suspended. Does that mean that Morris did something more severe to justify a more severe punishment? Or did Pitino hold Morris to a higher standard because he was a senior?

Just to be clear, I am not providing any new information about what Morris did or trying to suggest that it is related to these videos.

One correction: I would estimate that 100% of the posters don't know exactly what happened.

And I agree - it sounds dangerous, and being on a board that is currently a main source of information prompts me to think about what I post. I know this is a big step for some but consider trying it. Many of us struggle with the line between opinion and fact.

Absolutely true. We can all agree that it is irresponsible for a reputable news source to be giving any credence at all to technological back fence chatter? I'm with XMan here. This is frightening for journalism. Sources are not just anonymous to the reader but to the writer as well. Yikes!

Seems as though the current situation is still in the investigative stage. Hold on before you try to compare the two situations.

AP Guy Jon K. was on Barreiro's show last night. Starts with saying he and another AP guy were working the story all day and "here's what we know". Laid out a timeline with three key events.

1) Video posted, see Dorsey in video, quickly deleted
2) The U suspends the three
3) The U issues another statement citing privacy issues

The first event on the timeline was taken directly from a Gopherhole thread. The next two events were the two statements released by the U.

Great f'ing journalism.

In AP Guy's defense, he has stated that nothing illegal happened, and that everything is getting blown out of proportion

The fact that the Strib and WCCO are running full stories on this with Gopherhole and anonymous Gopher fans is absolutely pathetic. There are no more journalistic standards anywhere it seems.

I expected a story re-capping the U's statement and perhaps referencing an offensive post on social media. To go into the detail based on internet speculation is terrible journalism. At minimum you are dragging Mason and McBreyer through the mud when they likely did nothing wrong. They are not naming the female, nor should they. But Mason has his picture plastered right on the article. How is that fair?

I had an exchange with Doogie about the post above. Obviously it was tongue in cheek and I don't blame him for watching the video since it was forwarded to him. I'm glad KSTP showed some restraint in reporting this that the other outlets did not. Props to them.

I'd just point out that the behavior of the media aside, Richard Pitino seems to disagree with you.

pretty easy here

just hold the all students to those same standards. no consensual relations whatsoever.

I don't have a problem with him punishing them for their conduct. I don't think they deserve to have their issue aired in the mainstream media based on internet rumors though.

I was listening to Overnight America last night and they had an author on hyping her new book. I do not remember the exact title but it is a book about teen girls and their use of social media. The author spent three years doing research, including interviewing over 200 teens. She said that it is normal and routine for teens to post explicit sex videos and stories of themselves and others on social media. So, perhaps the posting of this particular video is not quite as horrendous as I think it is. (Although, I will never understand doing it; but, then, I am an old fart and am likely out of touch with the youth culture and its relationship with social media.)

No, I'm in my 20s and it's as horrendous as you think it is.

I'm 25 and I don't personally know a single person who has posted a lewd video or pic of his/herself to a public forum without remaining anonymous. Tumblr is one thing, twitter is another, especially if your face is in the video.
