WBB: Gophers @ Maryland-B1G Game 18 (2/28)

It's hard to beat Maryland on their turf and it doesn't help that the gophers failed to play defense.

Do you blame the players or the coaches? They seem stuck on the 2-3 zone because it expends less energy or whatever. This defense seemed effective against some teams but not very effective on most. I think they need to at least mix it up some. Press more.... and a lot more man-to-man.

A big problem with the 2-3 zone is the player defending in the lane doesn't defend well at all. Barnes, for example, could at least put her arm up and look like she wants to block a shot while someone is driving right by her for an easy lay up. Barnes and Edwards aren't very aggressive going for rebounds. They just have their arms up hoping it falls into them and don't move towards the ball.

Agree overpass. Barnes plays with no energy at all. I don't know what Stollings saw in her as a JC player.

The team doesn't have any size in the middle. They try to collapse but still can't shut down a decent post player. And face the facts, there is not a lot of quickness on the team. They just aren't good defensive players.

If there was ever a team that 'lived and died' with the outside shot......well.....
