UL Press Conference UPDATED: Self-imposes postseason ban this season

Dana O'Neil: Louisville's self-imposed ban is only the beginning

Considering the NCAA wheels of justice tend to move with the alacrity of a turtle carrying a piano through quicksand, that means we are months from a conclusion.

Yet according to school president Dr. James Ramsey, the school received an update from the NCAA and its own investigative committee Thursday, and by just a little past lunchtime Friday, announced a seasonal death penalty. The Cardinals' 2015-16 season will come to a close on March 5 in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Which can only mean one thing.

As bad as Friday might seem to the Cardinals' faithful, things could get even uglier.

Apparently now that Rick's program has been busted for running a whorehouse he has all the answers for the NCAA. Guy needs to keep his mouth shut.

Is Richard's name going to surface in this probe?

Powell said she put in a call to an NCAA representative in the past but that the person hung up on her. An NCAA spokesperson on Tuesday wouldn't confirm or deny Powell's claim, but the spokesperson told ESPN, "As with any potential rule violation, we welcome a conversation with anyone who has information."

Powell said she asked McGee whether Pitino knew about the parties: "I said, 'Does Pitino know about this?' And he said, 'He's Rick. He knows about everything.'"

The only time self -sanctions should have any affect is when the university has fired all the culprits and is self-sanctionig as a penalty of its own.

Acknowledging guilt but keeping the people who orchestrated the problems is ridiculous. NCAA should say thanks, but your punishment begins when we decide.

PS The mother in the middle of this is not going to win any mother of the year awards.

The NCAA should give the death sentence to UNC, but they haven't. I have no respect for the NCAA and their infractions committee. It's like looking at the Olympic committee; you know it's just oozing with corruption, but you're not sure where.

I would think very likely.

If Richard gets bounced because of this I hope that we don't lose those recruits. I think they would have to give the job to Ben Johnson in order to keep the new players coming and the few decent players here.

What would be sad (and amazing and oh so Minnesota) is if UM bounced Pitino Jr. over the scandal while Pitino Sr. kept working at Louisville.

That said, our Pitino doesn't seem at all linked to the whoring.

If they get rid of Pitino, they need a full search. A good hire and maybe the recruits stay. I have to think the recruits committed to the U as much as to the coach (in this case).

"more"?! lol, this link is from october. i'm sure lots of more links we can pick from october.

So sorry you don't think it's relevant because it is from October. Seems relevant to the thread to me.

Long SI Q&A:

SI: So are you fully committed to remaining as the coach at Louisville?

RP: You know, I do the same thing every year. I take some time and ask, Did you have fun? Is it something you want to continue doing? And every year for 15 years, I’ve said I want to come back. Now these circumstances are different than most, but I’m more passionate today than I’ve ever been. I think I enjoy teaching as much as I’ve ever enjoyed it. If there was a time where if I believe in my heart that Louisville is better off without me, I would leave yesterday.

SI: There is a lot more to this process that is still playing out. The school has to finish its investigation, the NCAA still has to weigh in, and then there’s the criminal investigation, which is ongoing. How concerned are you that down the road there will be more revelations, and therefore more penalties?

RP: First of all, I think what we did was as harsh a penalty as anything I’ve ever witnessed. I don’t know how much more you can levy on this school. If it comes out that it was a one-man operation and nobody else knew anything about it, what would you say then? Now if there’s something else that we don’t know about, then that’s another problem we have. But I truly think a lot of us will be vindicated when the NCAA comes out with their findings. People at Louisville know that I am telling the truth.

He won't, and nothing will happen to Minnesota because of what Richard may or may not have done as an assistant coach

While this seems important, why is the NCAA still laying hands off on the enormous UNC academic scandal? This Louisville issue is almost insignificant compared to that. The lack of outrage from the American people is worse.

This.

I would argue that supplying prostitutes to minors during a recruiting visit is quite significant. The American public has for a long time understood that the athletes at big time universities may not be doing their homework. What we weren't "aware of" (unless you watched He Got Game (and you should if you havn't)) was that colleges and universities were providing paid sexual favors to minors in an effort to get them to attend a particular school.

Sex creates outrage for a lot of people in America, unless it's being provided to them.
