Looking for a Land of Lincoln Sweep:

Minnesota (7-4) travels to Northwestern (3-8) to take on the puzzlement that is the Wildcats. Northwestern, ranked early in the B1G season, sports wins over Nebraska and Ohio State. But the losses have piled up. In their last victory at Illinois (1-10), Deary, Inman and Lyon played 40 minutes and Coffey played 39 in order to defeat a depleted Illini team.

As we saw earlier in Minneapolis, Northwestern can score a ton of points. The Wildcats erased a 14 point third quarter deficit to tie the game at 66. Minnesota was able to wrangle out a 95-92 victory.

A Super Bowl Tradition: Last season, Northwestern also hosted the Gophers on Super Bowl Sunday. And if the easy win for Wildcats wasn’t punishment enough, Gophers were snowed in an extra day in Evanston.

The Wildcats (3-8):

B1G Wins: Nebraska (65-62), Ohio State (88-82), @ Illinois (69-59)

B1G Losses: @Penn State (65-62), Purdue (85-71), @ Michigan State (74-51), @Maryland (80-62), @Minnesota (95-92), Indiana (91-84), @Ohio State (76-73), Iowa (79-64)

Probable Starters

F Nia Coffey 21.9 points/B1G game
G Maggie Lyon 16.9
G Christen Inman 15.1
G Ashley Deary 10.6
Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah 3.3

Location: Evanston, Ill.

Banham needs her other 1/2 to pick it up in the second half. We have left that shot at the free throw line open all season. Our bigs are not mobile enough to come out and cover it but the wing needs to slide down. We can not afford to drop this game. Go Gophers!

Gophs down 6 at the half

Banham with 20 pts so far.

Yes, need this game.

Go Gals!

#25 northwestern.....taller version of Jennifer Garner?

Karely Barns needs a bottle of 5 hour energy. Every game it is like she just workup.

AZB would sure look good on this team.

We just don't have any inside size

Whis you would have made both free throws Carley

SCHOOL RECORD. Rachel Banham has 45 points, breaking Carol Ann Shudlick's old mark.

She did it. Rachel Banham just went for 50 points. Still in OT. She just broke the Big Ten record for points in a game.

Holy Moly.....Gophers win 112-102 ....two ot's

Banham 60 pts..... new Big Ten record.

Great game!

60 sounds so much better than 58. Glad she got fouled at the end to hit those last 2 free throws.

Very happy I got to watch history made......and a great game.

Lynx need to get Rachel.

Old record was 49

Send a DVD of this game to the selection committee. 8-4, baby! Nice pop in the rpi coming?

Glad they won or that might have taken some of the glow off the record. Cannot believe how many open shots they give up by not even making a move to guard the shooter. Would be a shame if that ultimately costs Rachel a chance to get into the tourney.

60 points for Rachel ties a 29 year old NCAA record.

So many key moments but it’s hard to top this stretch:

With the score 65-56 Northwestern and 7:59 remaining in the game we had this classic Banham outburst.

7:53 Banham with a three 65-59
Steal by Wagner
7:12 Jumper by Banham 65-61
Northwestern’s Lyons hits a free throw
6:39 Banham with a three 66-64
Steal by Banham
6:15 Layup and an and one by Banham 66-67 Gophers lead!!!!
11 points for Rachel and one for Northwestern and the craziness was on.

Yep, great for Rachel but what they need is quality wins. Today means they avoided a bad loss so that's good.

A bad loss? NW used to be a nationally ranked team, and the Gophers swept them. NW somehow has a rpi about 20 pts higher than the Gophs, so I'm not understanding how it would be considered a bad loss. It was a game they were supposed to lose.

Kind of stole this one today great performance by Banham putting this team on her back. This team looks like they will go as far as Banham and Wagner can take them. They definitely have to be a lot better defensively and rebounding going forward than they were today way too many easy buckets.

A team chasing an at-large bid can't afford lose to a team with a 3-8 (now 3-9) conference record. It was certainly a must win given the Gophers remaining schedule. Can't lose to the bottom-feeders, especially when your RPI is where the Gophers now is (#87).
