Three third-period goals propelled Minnesota to a 3-1 victory over Michigan State and a weekend sweep.

Post-Game Quotes

Don Lucia
“We knew there’d be good pushback from Michigan State. That’s the way it’s been all three years in the Big Ten. Hildebrand was good. Looked like the All-American he is. We talked we had to get more pressure around him to score goals. I felt we still had a chance going into the third being only down one. You need one shot but obviously to score on the very first shift of the third period chances momentum in a game.”

On having Justin Kloos scoring more consistently:
“Like any team, you need your core three or four guys to lead you night in and night out, offensively. That’s our team, too. Kloos was able to find a goal tonight and then Connor [Reilly] got the game winner. Eric [Schierhorn] played really well in the net. He gave us an opportunity to win the game. Our shots were real low all weekend long. We only gave up 18, 19 shots. When you do that, you’re going to have a real good chance to win games.”

On coming back in the third period:
“We’ve done that a couple time now. Early in the year there wasn’t much push back. Now they’re starting to develop a little bit of that push-back attitude that, we gave up the first goal tonight, we can come back and win.”

Justin Kloos
“It was obviously a big weekend. Last night, things came a little bit easier. We were able to get some bounces early but this one feels a little better. We were resilient all night. We didn’t get much as far a bounces the first couple periods. We found a way in the third and hopefully that’s showing our team growth by finding ways to win at the end.”

On if they have momentum heading to Wisconsin next weekend:
“Absolutely. Honestly, since the second game in Michigan, we’ve played some pretty good hockey. We blew one against Harvard. Blew one against Penn State, but other than that, I think we’ve took it to almost every team we’ve played.”

Three Stars

3 – Tyler Sheehy assisted on all three Gopher goals.

2 – Justin Kloos scored a goal and added two assists.

1 – Connor Reilly scored the game-winning goal.

By The Numbers

1 Second left on the clock with Leon Bristedt scored an open-net goal to put the Gophers up, 3-1.

4 Blocked shots for Nick Seeler. He also finished plus three on the night.

31 Seconds into the third period, Justin Kloos tied the score, 1-1. The goal set the tone for the Gophers to complete the comeback and sweep the Spartans.

What’s Next

The Gophers travel to Madison for a weekend series against the Wisconsin Badgers.

If we're going to have any hope making the tourney without winning the big ten tournament, sweeps against the lower teams have to keep happening. Must do the same next weekend against a poor Wisconsin to have some momentum for the big impact (in pwr) that are coming at the nscc in 2 weeks
