Purdue is 4-0 in the B1G, 13-2 overall and is riding an eight game winning streak into the West Lafayette match-up with the Gophers. The guard oriented Boilers have height both inside (Horrock is 6’5” and Kiesler is 6’6”) and at guard (Perry in 6’2”). Against Indiana three of the four starting guards played over 35 minutes: Morrissette 39, Wilson 38 and Keys 35.

Last Season: Minnesota ended a 10 year losing streak in Mackey Arena by turning a one point half time lead into a 81-68 victory. Zahui dropped 21 points and collected 19 rebounds while Kelley was the leading scorer with 22. Wagner dished out 8 assists to go with her 16 points.

B1G wins: @Michigan (65-63), Illinois (69-65), @ Northwestern (85-71) and Indiana (63-53)

Key non-conference games: Defeated Louisville and lost to Stanford in OT.

Common non-conference opponent: Both teams defeated Maine; Purdue (56-33); Minnesota (91-64).

Injury Update: Hayden Hamby remains out with a foot injury. Torrie Thornton has been out with a back injury but played 7 minutes versus Indiana.

Probable Purdue Starters:

C Bree Horrock 3.4 points/game
G Ashley Morrissette 12.1
G Bridget Perry 12.0
G Andreana Keys 8.4
G April Wilson 14.8

GO GOPHERS!!!

P.S. Gopher Women game at Purdue is 01-14-16.

Heard on the radio another transfer might be joining the program? Think it was a Big 12 school, maybe?

There was a high profile release from Iowa State.

ISU coach Bill Fennelly didn't expect the news that his sophomore forward, Bryanna Fernstrom, asked for her release from Iowa State on Monday morning.

Fernstrom texted Fennelly on Sunday night, saying she wanted to meet Monday morning. In that meeting, Fernstrom offered no explanation for her departure. Fennelly opened his Monday press conference with the news

Should be a good match-up with Rachel or Carlie tonight.

[Andreana] Keys is playing like it right now. In the last two games, she is averaging 14 points and 10 rebounds per game, having a double-double – 10 points and 11 boards – in Sunday’s win over Indiana.

But just as much as the numbers, Keys is impacting Purdue in more intangible ways. She’s frequently defending one of the opponent’s best offensive players – splitting those duties with April Wilson – and is physical, tough and aggressive

Anyone up for a book burning? Just one book though, Stollings' defensive playbook. All copies must be destroyed!

Didn't get to see the all of the first half but it looked like it was another really slow start.

Purdue 84, Minnesota 72

A second straight slow start followed by an 8 point second quarter put the Gophers down by 12 at the half 36-24. Minnesota was slow adjusting to Purdue’s aggressive hedging defense. However, after the half, Rachel dialed up the offense (Rachel finished with 27) and along with Wagner led a Minnesota comeback which closed within 2 early in the fourth quarter. It wasn’t enough. The Gophers needed another scorer and they needed to stop Dominique McBryde (7-8 from the field and 8-11 from the line for 22 points and 8 rebounds).

The Hoosiers fresh off their defeat of Michigan State arrive at Williams on Sunday.

Starters:

Lamke
Wagner
Banham
Bailey
Starr

Minutes Played:

40 Wagner
38 Banham
32 Mullaney
19 Starr (fouled out)
18 Edwards
17 Bailey (fouled out)
17 Barnes
14 Hedstrom
5 Lamke

Purdue played hard defense from the start and the Gophers found themselves digging out of a hole once again. They just about got out of the hole as Purdue seemed to tire in the second half, but it wasn't enough as the Gopher just couldn't get the stops they needed. Hard to gauge Purdue because they only squeaked by Illinois by 4 pts. Are they really the best team in the Big or does the schedule play a big part of this?

If you look at the team stats in this game, the most glaring difference is the PF'S and pts off of FT's:
PUR 18 PF 28-36 FT
MIN 29 PF 13-17 FT

MIN played the foul game down the stretch but there was still quite a difference.

I keep thinking Purdue isn't the best team in the B1G; but they are well balanced (even with the short roster). After watching Michigan State and Ohio State throw up clunkers I'm thinking Purdue has a chance to win the B1G. As you noted, they do run themselves into spells of exhaustion.

One thing that's bugged me the last two Gopher games is that Minnesota hasn't taken advantage of Michigan and Purdue sending their posts out to hedge on the guards. When the Gopher posts occasionally remember to dive to the hoop, the guards only occasionally remember to get them the ball. Or for that matter, speaking of fouls, if the guards are going to keep the ball, they need to force the opposing post to foul. Last night, Purdue's posts were having too much fun with no risk.

Sure is nice getting in-depth wbb coverage.....only here on GH.
