Allina Starr surprised her friends and family in Minnesota when she talked about quitting basketball after her first year in college.
The former DeLaSalle star wasn't getting a lot of playing time as a freshman at Auburn. She was homesick and had started questioning her love for the game.
"I really didn't want to play basketball anymore," said Starr, now a University of Minnesota sophomore.
But it turns out transferring home to play for the Gophers was exactly what she needed to revive her passion...
Johnson Patterson played a big part in making sure the Gophers were an option. Stollings and assistant coach Nikita Lowry Dawkins quickly saw a physically strong guard who could help them right away in the Big Ten.
"It's ideal. It's perfect," Stollings said. "She's played in the SEC, so she knows what that level is about. We're excited to have her back. She can play three positions for us. She can play 2, 3 or 4."
Although Starr was a point guard in high school, her role now is to rebound and defend.
