Two traditional bottom feeder Power 5 football programs outdraw an OT late-regular season game between the games two biggest rivals. Hence the reason we have so many bowl games.

Exactly why they won't cut the # of bowl games. Attendance and what fans "travel" means nothing compared to TV ratings/$

The UNC-Duke OT game was a Wednesday night on ESPN, the Pinstripe Bowl was on Saturday late afternoon on ABC.

A huge difference.

Football rules TV sports.

That shocks me. Airing it on a broadcast network vs. ESPN makes a difference, but I'm still surprised.

That just might be the ESPN rating. What is the total for the whole family of networks, each with I different feed?

This is not a surprise. College football is so much more popular than football. But remember Iowa fans travel so well so it don't matter if they lose their bowls games because they travel so well.

The Duke v Wisconsin game was the highest rated and most watched basketball game since game 6 of the '98 NBA Finals, Jordan's last with the Bulls. CB isn't dying. It just needs a great tourney with compelling stories to thrive like that. If it was Duke vs an undefeated Kentucky it would have been even higher.
