What is typically the biggest fault of freshmen hoopsters? Playing tentative? That's what I'm seeing of Dupree, Dorsey and to a lesser extent Murphy. So it comes as no surprise that after a handful of games into their rookie non-conf season they are struggling. That then leaves essentially King, Morris or Mason to supply leadership and confidence. King is effective when he has space to catch and shoot; without space, he lacks the athleticism to make a play. Mason needs to be more multi-functional, penetrate and dish in addition to pass the perimeter and shoot 3's. In the absence of offense from Mason or King, does it come as any surprise that Carlos will try to fill the void? I'm not saying it's a great option, but if no one else asserts, Carlos will. This raises the question as to the half court scheme currently in place.
1. Summarizing, this team will struggle, but let's look for the freshmen to get their sea legs along the way.
2. Pittino has to improve in the half court offense with plays for King, Mason, Carlos and even some opportuties for Konate, but the ball movement has to improve dramatically.
3. As stated above, we have to give Bakery as many minutes as possible to see what he can be.
4. This year is a stepping stone and we just have to accept it.
5. OSU and PSU were beaten tonight so we're not the only one with problems!
