That's 4 straight seasons the Gophers have lost in the 1st round of their exempt tournament:
2012: lost to Duke (Battle 4 Atlantis)
2013: lost to Syracuse (Maui Invitational)
2014: lost to Saint John's (NIT Season Tip-Off)
2015: lost to Temple (Puerto Rico Tip-Off)
If Gophers continue to play in these tournaments (sounds like Pitino doesn't like 'em?), they need to start winning the opener. It's not that important this season because the Gophers won't be a NCAA-quality team anyways, but in the future need to start getting into the winners bracket. That's where you're far more likely to find 2 more quality opponents, though the Battle 4 Atlantis three years ago was nice, when the Gophers got wins over Memphis & Stanford.
