WEEK 5 GRADES
Illinois: B
Indiana: B
Iowa: B+
Maryland: D-
Michigan: B+
Michigan State: C-
Minnesota: F
Nebraska: D
Northwestern: A
Ohio State: C
Penn State: C
Purdue: B-
Wisconsin: D

Biggest disappointment: Minnesota. The bottom finally fell out of the Golden Gophers in a humiliating 27-0 loss at Northwestern. The floundering offense hit rock bottom with 173 yards—99 passing and 74 rushing. The staff finally pulled QB Mitch Leidner after his fumble was scooped and scored in the second half and inserted true freshman Demry Croft. Leidner hit just 10-of-21 passes for 72 yards with a pick and aforementioned fumble.

STOCK DOWN

Minnesota. It may be time to scratch the Gophers from the list of contenders in the Big Ten West. Minnesota looks lost after getting stifled 27-0 at Northwestern. The Gophers can’t even run, getting 74 yards on 33 totes with a long of 11 yards. Ugh. Even a usually stout defense was off its game vs. a Wildcat attack that was missing stud left tackle Geoff Mogus and was starting a redshirt freshman QB.

Go Gophers!!

Salt, meet wound.

God it's depressing to read that.

Pretty accurate. Only quibble - not sure how "off the game" the D was considering they only really allowed 13 points today despite being on the field nearly the entire 2nd half

UGH - This is our reality check if you are a Gopher fan. No sugar coating or dumping needed - our offense is absolutely terrible. Wish we would have just kept Mason's offense which beat up on even the best of teams. Now THAT was an offense!!!

I would settle for last year's offense and this year's defense.

It was an utter embarrassment from a coaching standpoint, they better be motivated to improve this offense quickly or the heat is only going to get hotter.

I don't think there is any lack of motivation. If you don't have the players that can get the job done or coaches that can come up with a better way to do things it isn't hard to figure out what is going to happen.

glad they took until game #5 to realize there is a problem

Well.... not wrong.

Yes, not wrong, but Maryland was possibly even more pathetic than us so I don't think we should be the only F. Also interesting that Iowa is assigned a B+ for beating Wisconsin at Madison (and Michigan gets the same grade for their complete stomping) while Northwestern gets an A for beating us at home. Looks like they only wanted to assign one A and one F.

I think they're rating relative to expectations coming into the season per team. Purdue has 1 win, but got a good grade.

It's accurate considering what was hoped for, it has been a long fall for the offense.

The seventh grade offense not working in the B1G. Who would have suspected that?

Except for one game, offense has been terrible all year. Neither the system (including offensive line), nor the QB, is working.
