Konate will be the biggest question mark among the starters. The Mali native only averaged 2.2 points and 2.1 rebounds in 8.9 minutes as a freshman last season, but coaches rave about his potential.

"BK has got the ability to take off this year," Pitino said. "His problem is foul trouble. He can't do it on the bench. He should be a force for us, I would hope, if he stays out of foul trouble."

The Gophers have upgraded their athleticism from last season with freshmen Kevin Dorsey, Jordan Murphy and Dupree McBrayer, who were all active on the ball and got into passing lanes during team drills Friday.

Dorsey is a "high-risk, high-reward type player," Pitino said.

The four-star point guard recruit has already impressed Morris defensively.

"He's a tough guy," he said. "He'll guard you 94 feet. He's an animal. He's like one of us. He's a competitor."
