Allegations that Escorts Were Provided to Louisville Players and Recruits

This report will probably have a positive effect on recruiting.

Rick Pitino: "I've always held the Basketball program to the same high sexual standards I demand of myself!"

I smell a new assistant coach/recruiting coordinator.

Classic double entendre!

I used to worship this guy. His failure at Boston made him so desperate to win. His comment is so stupid nd insulting at the same time. Yes Rick, they didn't come for those women. They came to UL for all the perks that you and your assistants provided.

If there is one phrase that will get me laughing more than anything its "thirsty bitches".....

I hired her for my grandson. Her website said she worked with the Louisville basketball team. I thought she could help him with his free throw shooting. He said she provided some very good coaching...but he still can't shoot free throws. Guess I wasted my money.

Boy genius, Elvis, should be aware that receiving money for a handshake or picture is also a major violation of NCAA rules.

He has an easy out through. Terrence Williams played in the NBA since 2009 so even if they can prove he did that during college he's not the one that'd get punished anyway.

Well - if it turns out that father P was in the know on that deal- then that's the end of Richard someday being the next coach there. I think Rick is smarter than that- so I doubt it gets to him being the culprit. Never know though- people do crazy things...

Rick taking the same approach as all the other coaches

Plausible deniability & the Sergeant Schultz approach. ... "I know nnnnothing."

Roy Williams using it for the academic fraud scandal @ UNC.

Jim Boeheim playing the Sergeant Schultz card @ Syracuse.

Larry Brown using it @ SMU.

Rick now using it for the escort scandal @ Louisville.

If it has any teeth this Louisville thing could get really interesting. On paper Louisville looks down this year, their non-conference schedule is awful except for two games. ... Perhaps the Cardinals have a disappointing NIT-type season, memories of Rick's dalliance resurface; throw that into the mix, the heat turns up on the Louisville AD and Rick. Ya' never know.

So you are suggesting that each of these coaches ordered these acts to take place? Knowing about it after the fact has all kinds of timelines to know when they knew. The only one that seems sketchy to me is UNC because as long as that was going on and the number of confirmed people involved...at some point prior to getting caught Roy must have known? But I truly believe Pitino is shocked and unaware of this. Pitino is lots of things but under no circumstances is any coach signing off on strippers in a dorm named after their brother.

Boeheim got screwed....yes, he is arrogant and people might not like him but he reported the activity and the University self imposed a punishment. The NCAA penalty on Boeheim was personal
and unfair. I hope he wins the appeal...somehow...however unlikely.

I know it is now the rule...but holding coaches responsible for actions of people they hire on a blanket basis is wrong imo. People we all count on, let us down all the time. That hurts we all suffer when it happens but suggesting they should lose their job for it or be publicly ridiculed is just wrong....again imo

It's like the current football story...Jerry Kill is somehow less of a person because one of his 120 players he is responsible for screwed up? And at that, maybe screwed up... He should of prevented that...he didn't so it is the beginning of his integrity crumbling. That's silly, but there are already people taking shots at Jerry and you're adding to it regarding coaches.

per ESPN:

Five former University of Louisville basketball players and recruits told Outside the Lines that they attended parties at a campus dorm from 2010 to 2014 that included strippers paid for by the team's former graduate assistant coach, Andre McGee.

One of the former players said he had sex with a dancer after McGee paid her. Each of the players and recruits attended different parties at Billy Minardi Hall, where dancers, many of whom stripped naked, were present. Three of the five players said they attended parties as recruits and also when they played for Louisville.

Said one of the recruits who ultimately signed to play elsewhere: "I knew they weren't college girls. It was crazy. It was like I was in a strip club."

Powell told Outside the Lines in an extensive interview that McGee also supplied cash for "side deals," which included sex with some recruits, guardians who accompanied them on visits and some Louisville players.

The former player who said he had sex with a dancer told Outside the Lines that McGee provided him with one-dollar bills to tip dancers and paid for one of the dancers to have sex with the player in a separate room. One of the other former players, who said he attended the parties as a recruit and player, said McGee "would give us the money, just the recruits. A bunch of us were sitting there while they danced. Then the players left, and the recruits chose which one [of the dancers] they wanted."

Powell said she asked McGee whether Pitino knew about the parties: "I said, 'Does Pitino know about this?' And he said, 'He's Rick. He knows about everything.'"

While Powell said she has no firsthand knowledge Pitino knew about the parties, she finds it hard to believe he wouldn't have: "Four years, a boatload of recruits, a boatload of dancers, loud music, alcohol, security, cameras, basketball players who came in [to the dorm] at will ... "

Even if Pitino didn't know about this, it's still his program.

Running a basketball program is analogous to running a small to medium sized business. Part of running it successfully is knowing absolutely everything that goes on in the business. Everything.

If North Carolina can survive academic cheating Pitino may get away with plausible deniability on this. Nothing surprises me in the skanky world of college sports. My main concern is whether Richard's name pops up in this scandal. That's the last thing the U athletic dept needs at this point.

Even if Richard's name does not come up, there is damage to the "Pitino" brand. Let's face it that was one of the main reason's he was brought in here.

My thoughts exactly. I would think if it hasn't popped up by now (after ESPN OTL started digging around Louisville) there's a good chance the younger Pitino is in the clear. Hopefully it's just 1 "Assistant Gone Wild".

Don't worry, I'm sure the Strib is working up some vague, factless story trying to link the two as we speak...

Star Tribune Exclusive: Is U's Richard Pitino the Kingpin Behind Dad's Prostitution Ring?

After several hours of investigation, we have found no evidence to prove that he wasn't. How will the U respond amid Title IX investigation?

Even if Rick had anything to do with authorizing this- I would think that the last thing he would do is get his son involved. My guess is that the assistant(s) were told to make sure that the kids were entertained and enjoyed their trip and given a budget to do so and obviously- plenty of discretion and limited oversight as to how that money was spent. Assistants are evaluated on how well they recruit and I would guess he or they took matters into their own hands. That doesn't leave Rick blameless, there are ways to make sure this stuff doesn't happen.

Questions: 1) Is prostitution legal in Kentucky? 2) If not, why can't Katrina Powell be charged with a crime? 3) Is there any law against whoring out your 3 daughters?

Prostitution laws generally criminalize engagin in, offering to engage in, or agreeing to engage in a sexual act for compensation. Under Kentucky's prostitution and solicitation laws, it is illegal to both buy and sell sexual favors.

So hasn't she just implicated herself in a crime?

If I had to guess she has or will be offered immunity, otherwise she would keep her mouth shut. Plus escort services aren't necessary illegal, the term entertainment can be vague in a court of law.

The so called star witness from accounts prostituted her own daughters and I would guess is getting payed for her story. Of course Pitino is to blame but the whole mess doesn't leave me with the impression there were any victims here. A culture of pro sports and strippers has been around a long time. To think it doesn't go down into the college game is naive. Lesson is you better know your assistant coaches real well.

A lot of conflicting statements in this mess, Luke Hancock said he lived in the same dorm for three years while all of this was happening and he knew nada about it, never heard anything, if he knew nothing living in the dorm and playing on the team he doesn't understand how Pitino would ever be knowledgeable about it.
