per the STrib:

An associate athletic director at the University of Minnesota is on leave pending an investigation into five complaints against him in the wake of Athletic Director Norwood Teague’s resignation.

The U confirmed Wednesday that Teague’s hand-picked assistant, Mike Ellis, has “voluntarily” agreed to take leave from his job as outside lawyers the U hired to investigate sexual harassment and discrimination issues — “or other appropriate authority” — look into five anonymous complaints against Ellis received since Teague resigned in August. The U says that Ellis is cooperating in the investigation.

The U said that a prior complaint about Ellis, filed in January 2013 and investigated by the university’s human relations department, was closed without any disciplinary actions. State law restricts the release of further information about the complaints, a spokesman said.

Ellis did not respond to requests for comment. His wife, Terri Ellis, said Wednesday that reporters “don’t need to know” about his status with the U.

Teague and Ellis worked closely together in the athletics department at Virginia Commonwealth University. VCU basketball coach Beth Cunningham filed a Title IX sexual discrimination complaint against the school shortly before Teague left his job as athletics director there to run the U’s athletics department. VCU paid Cunningham $125,000 in July 2012 to settle the complaint — a month after Teague’s first day on the job at the U.

Good lord. Following Gopher athletics is like following a really bad soap opera most of the time.

This is shocking. Not that Ellis was a pig but that both him and Teague were so unaware that their behavior was not acceptable at any workplace in 2015. What kind of idiot keeps pornography on a work phone and shares it with others at work? This doesn't happen at Best Buy, let alone a hyper-sensitive environment at a university.

I think this is really going to intensify the pressure on Kaler:

The Star Tribune has a copy of an anonymous complaint sent to U President Eric Kaler about Ellis and Teague on Aug. 10. The complaint, purportedly from members of the U’s “senior athletic staff,” alleges that Ellis had pornographic images of college-aged women on his cellphone and shared them with Teague and others in December 2012 at the Gophers bowl game in Houston, Texas.

Evan Lapiska, a spokesman for the U, confirmed Thursday that this complaint relates to the same information in the January 2013 complaint against Ellis, which was resolved without any disciplinary actions.

The complaint says that when a senior member of the U’s athletics department and a member of the Gopher Radio Network Team “made it known they were offended by the graphic images, that person was immediately shunned by the new senior administrators,” including Teague and Ellis. “A few days after returning from the bowl trip, this athletic administrator was shockingly fired for ‘reorganization purposes’ a move that very much troubled the rest of the athletic staff,” the August complaint says.

Go Gophers!!

Although it is pretty stupid thing to do for a person in his position to be doing... looking/sharing naked picks of women in their 20's in not in the same ball park as what the Wood-Man did.

With the Markingson cover-up, Teague, and now Ellis, when does Kaler really start to feel the heat?

Somewhere Tubby Smith is probably laughing.

Scratch that. Probably not, because he's got too much class for that.

It appears that Kaler doesn't fix problems. He just wishes they would go away. Unfortunately, that's not how life works.

Assuming that Kaler somehow survives this mess, there is no way that Beth Goetz is the permanent AD. She was Teague's hire and Ellis's colleague. If you go on her twitter account, there are several pics of both Teague and Ellis. Fair or not, she is associated with that culture. Tainted.

Doesn't matter if it's in the same ball park or not. More meat for the media. The great majority of people are going to be disgusted by this and questioning what is really going on at the U. And they have every reason to. Honest to God, I sometimes wonder if people on GH ever get out and talk to anyone who doesn't have a monicker here. Doesn't matter that much what we think. It's what the public thinks.

I was in favor of the change because the program appeared to be tired and heading in the wrong direction. (Not that Pitino has done anything.) However, being fired by such slime balls makes the payout feel right.

I liked Tubby, but I had no problem when Teague made the change. I understood it, despite Tim Brando's vehement objections (remember that?). I do find it amusing that the highly proclaimed Villa 7 basketball wonderboys apparently have turned out to be classless goobers.

Maybe Tubby is snickering (a little bit).

Stop talking about Tubby.

Christ.

Yeah, this has nothing to do with Tubby.

I do feel the heat rising on Kaler's chair. The pressure will come if the complaining party was actually fired because of those complaints against Ellis. That's assuming nothing more comes out. However I have a feeling it's just starting. Hope like hell I'm wrong.

How much time will ESPN devote to this during the game?

Hopefully it's not a blowout where they need to fill more air with their ramblings about anything and everything except the game itself. Dave Pasch definitely likes to do that. Good announcer, but kind of a twit.

That and even with all their Villa 7 'connections' the search basically ended up being 'Help us Billy Donovan!'

I doubt the national audience cares much about the particulars of an associate AD. But I'm sure the general 'turmoil' will get plenty of time.

How can't it?

Monicker aye?

My co-worker (Wisco Native) with two children at UW-Madison currently broke the news to me, then when he read later what actually happened he that it was much less of a story... but he did get a good laugh at the UofM's misfortune.

Nope. They will focus on Jerry Kill. He is a better and easier story.

I'm okay with us blowing TCU out. :cool02:

It became a big deal when they alienated and eventually fired the person that was uncomfortable with the pics and made the complaint. That's absolutely a major issue.

Believe me, I am on the side of the good (so much so that my support for the women harassed by Teague actually got me called a d-bag by poster Les Bolstad*), but the timing of the complaint is very suspect. If the guy was phased out because of his "respect" for women the complaint would have been in 2012 or he would have got a good pay-out.

This reeks of opportunism.

*I later learned this was not as exceptional event as I thought as LB called me a d-bag another time and used it on other posters as well. He deals out the d-bags pretty liberally.
