Mike Ellis (Associate AD) Taking Leave of Absence

I heard that he learned the ol' Mega Tongue from Norwood

doogie drools over this guy. he couldn't pimp more if he tried. wonder if he'll bury him now, or if he'll defend him.

Legit or piling on? The title IX zealots want their pound of flesh.

at this point does it matter? ellis will never work another day at the u, and his days were likely numbered once the original mega tongue was exposed. a lot of teague hires will be gone in a year. the quicker that happens, the better.

The Star Tribune has a copy of an anonymous complaint sent to U President Eric Kaler about Ellis and Teague on Aug. 10. The complaint, purportedly from members of the U’s “senior athletic staff,” alleges that Ellis had pornographic images of college-aged women on his cellphone and shared them with Teague and others in December 2012 at the Gophers bowl game in Houston, Texas.

The complaint says that when a senior member of the U’s athletics department and a member of the Gopher Radio Network Team “made it known they were offended by the graphic images, that person was immediately shunned by the new senior administrators,” including Teague and Ellis. “A few days after returning from the bowl trip, this athletic administrator was shockingly fired for ‘reorganization purposes’ a move that very much troubled the rest of the athletic staff,” the August complaint says.

I think this is really going to intensify the pressure on Kaler:

Why would this intensify the pressure on Kaler? Complaint was filed August 10. Teague resigned Aug 7 and Ellis a month later. Am I missing the Kaler angle?

In a vacuum the camera issue isn't a huge deal. But the bigger issue is that Kaler (hopefully) didn't know why they fired a high ranking athletic admin after just promoting him. That's the issue. And, we're not in a vacuum here. It has the perception of a fraternity mentality under Kaler's watch, be it right or not.

It is funny, given how strongly he was disliked by many, but Maturi may, by default, end up being remembered as an effective AD.

Maybe because he basically was? I recently put out a list of our AD's since Giel, and Maturi actually looked pretty good. Several stupid decisions but then again Joe Salem and Jim Wacker were hired by
former U football players made AD's. He didn't move us into the Metrodome. TCF Bank was built under his watch, as well as upgrades made to Williams and Mariucci. Also hired a basketball coach who won a national title. But because he made it a point to support all athletics as a college AD (imagine that) people keep coming up with this crap about him not seeing the big picture and being nothing but a doofus.

On a roll now, so I'll point out no 120+ violations in BB; no scandal in Madison; no Ganglehoff writing papers on menstrual cycles; and no Title IX investigation. He merged two athletic departments with a minimum of fuss. Considering the power Voelz had and the people she put in, that might be Maturi's biggest accomplishment. Even bigger than hiring a football coach by the name of Kill.

It seems to be a very small fraternity then. The complaint was filed by senior leadership staff specifically about Teague & Ellis, which says to me this wasn't endemic to the department. I'm guessing Kaler doesn't concern himself with hiring & firing of mid-level associates from various departments. Unless there's a complaint filed, which seems to be the case here. Kaler may have his faults as Pres, but covering Teague & Ellis' grossness doesn't seem to be one.

It seems to just be the Basketball Heavy AD and his sidekick were two fish out of water. The rest didn't want to follow them which is smart.

Teague and Ellis - the Porno Twins. "What - you're not into Porn? Dammit, we can't work with someone like that."

Seriously - if this proves to be true that Teague fired someone because they complained about Teague and Ellis looking at porn - while the same administrators were also the target of a Title IX investigation, it paints a pretty ugly picture of how the U athletic dep't was being operated.

Minnesota Associate AD Mike Ellis on leave pending investigation

Link

University of Minnesota associate athletic director Mike Ellis has taken a voluntary leave from his job pending the results of an investigation into five complaints filed against him.

The U acted responsibly by firing the AD and his porno minion. If the culture was so awful at the U, the reporting structure would ignore accusations. Since they acted on the accusations with an investigation and two terminations, it leads me to believe that the system is working as it should as far as maintaining the employment relationship.

I do think it is reasonable to include Kaler in the investigation as he was instrumental in bringing in Teague. From a systems perspective, the relationship is now tainted and judgement becomes an issue of perspective. In order to preserve the President's reputation, he should submit to questions and open his office to an outside investigator. It assists in preserving the legitimacy of the office and will keep the office in good standing with the remaining employees of the U.

I think it's important that before we jump to conclusions we get the photos that were being shared released to gopherhole so we can review and determine our level of outrage.

Maybe Villa 7 is the Ashley Madison of college athletics?
