per Jason Gonzalez:

The Board of Regents approval vote needed to break ground on the Gophers’ $190 million athletics village will be delayed again — at least until October — Chair Dean Johnson told the Star Tribune on Tuesday.

An informational meeting for the university facilities committee will be held on Sept. 10, and on Oct. 9 the regents, “hope to take a vote on the athletics village, which would include a plan for the track [complex],” Johnson said.

“There are many reasons for that [delay], and all good reasons,” Johnson added. “No. 1, it’s a very visible program and we have to do it right. No. 2, we have to make sure the appropriate financing is in place. No. 3, that the actual facility will meet the competitive needs for our student-athletes. No. 4, this building will be closely watched.”

This starts to feel like Thomas Newton's abortive initiative to build a spaceship for the return trip to his home planet in "The Man Who Fell to Earth."

Maybe we should have a poll on the number of times the date will change for when we will actually break ground.

I hate the U's incompetence is making Gopher Warrior look remotely correct.

The good news is that we know GW is a twit and that eventually even the U gets out of their own way and this will get done.

In the meantime, I guess it's good that he can find such joy in the news. A true Gopher fan.

Non-Gopher fan obsessed with GH. Awesome.

But hey, Sid said we would break ground in December... Ol' boy is only going to be a year off.

Okay, here is the schedule from the ceremonial gold shovel company. The Board of Regents meets on Friday October 9th. They approve the Athletics Village plan. Tuesday October 13th is scheduled as the ceremonial shovels in ground press release celebration. Tweet it...believe it..repeat it...pass out flyers...be there.

The University of Minnesota anticipates breaking ground on its $190 million Athletes Village project by late fall, senior associate athletics director Chris Werle said, adding that an ongoing federal Title IX investigation should not stop the project from moving forward.

"We remain confident that the Athletes Village project will move forward pending Board of Regents approval in early October," Werle said in a statement. "A late fall start date will not impact the overall project's on time completion."

The Regents will be presented a plan for approval at the board's Oct. 9 meeting.
